granted yes i have ran into some problems however so far i ahve been able to overcome them untill now. i used a jigsaw and cut a blow whole the size of a cd in the top of my case and was going to put my cd-rw under neeth it and also cut out 2 semi circles in the cdrw housing so you can see the cd spinning. so far it was working fine got the whoiles cut but when now that i am trying to pice it back toget her when i put a cd in it vibrats WAY to much and somtimes even comens off the spinner thingy.i have taken 2 pics one of the cut and also one of a thing that ( i think) stops it vibrating so much but it aint working. please help and comments about mebeing a numpty are allowed

when you cut it it lost its support. all you gotta do is put something in place to support it again. a plexi window and rubber washers should do just fine. if not then you might just have to buy a new one:p. i do think you can work with it.

as far as being a newb... we started somewhere. i'm sure most people have been where you were... to much ambition and no thought. we learn from these things.

i meant to add one yourself between the window and rom case. it helps elliminate the vibration. the window would be outside of it. sorry if i didn't explain that earlier.

Rich is right ...

since the edge of the Cd doesn't have the same restrictions (top is missing) it wobbles.

The spinny thing is just for keeping the CD in place and at the right level for the lasers.

Also if you use the cheap see through media..you might want to re-think that if someone looks in the drive and the lasers might not read it right as it sees through the drive housing.

:? so your saying i need to find somthing rubber to pu in where the spinny thing is and it will stop the mad vibrations? plus i was thinking of ptting all the broken glass we have up in our loft tto good use for the windows and just glueing the windows on as i no longer ave acsess to the cutting device

i suppose you could use a cd case. as long as you don't crack it then you should be fine. i personally wouldn't trust the stability of it. a small sheet of plexi glass is pretty cheap. i don't know where you are at but over here in the u.s., it's about $3-5 for a sheet of 2'1/2"x2'1/2" which is more than you would need for the cdrom drive.
