I think this is just what knowledgegranted needs...

Quick overview:
32:10 aspect ratio
2880x900 resolution
200 nits brightness

The one thing that needs improving besides the cost: it's over a foot deep.

At first I was like OMG curved LCD!!?!?

Then I looked at the similar alienware one and saw they are DLP.

Still very awesome indeed, altho I think $8,000 is a bit steep.

I would expect $1-2000, maybe 3000, but not 8000. That's too much. I wonder how many they will sell. Cool product though.

Not the greatest resolution for such an expensive screen. x900 vertical? for a screen that's 15" high?

They can keep it. This will NOT sell for that price, especially right now. Plus it's not too much longer before OLED's hit...

Personally, I feel that this was a very stupid move on NEC's part.

Beautiful? Oh yes... Fail? Hell yes.

I can't think of any valid reason for having a seamless screen in relation to this particular product, so I agree with Buzz on the fail.

Since it isn't built for gamers that knocks out the AirSim crowd. Coders wouldn't need it since most programmers prefer vertical space, not horizontal. Industrial designers and CAD users might be interested in it, but this monitor doesn't do anything that 3 monitors for at least $4000 less can't do. Graphic designers would **** themselves if they had to go back to 900 horizontal lines.

Its an impressive feat of engineering, but they should have just left the model at CES and went bankrupt like a good little company.

I'm not sure what you meant by this, but anyways. for a modeler to have a seemless screen is awesome! That way we can render wireframe, shaders, and prospective all at once without F****g around every time trying to find the window.

Instead you just put something off to one side of the screen and likewise for everything else.

What I meant was the cost:benefit ratio of this vs 3 non-seamless monitors.

Say you got 3x 27" monitorshttp://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824005127
And you had a custom stand made to hold all three (the largest tri-stand I could find only supported 21" monitors)

The monitors are $1500 total, and the stand would cost less than $500 to be sure. That is $2000 plus your choice of supporting graphics cards. You would have approximately a 2", maybe 3" gap between the monitors.

This set up would feature:
77.1"x19.1" physical display space
5760x1080 resolution
Widescreen, flat panel LCD
Potentially wall mountable
50k:1 Contrast ratio
2ms response time
About 60lbs with stand
All for under $2000

Whereas seamless is:
32:10 aspect
10k:1 contrast
2880x900
45 lbs without stand
All for $8k

Basically, for a quarter of the price, you can have a ginormous three screen display that beats the seamless double WXGA+ in ever aspect except gaps between the screen. My argument is the only people who will buy that will be people with money to burn, not someone who needs to consider cost benefit factors for a business.

hey the first models always suck.

takes time for the technology to mature.

I can totally see this for stock market guru's. They've always got a rediculous amount of cash and monitors around there desk (i seen some guy with 8)

It'd also be pretty cool for medical research and reviews. you could look at the entire CAT image without gaps for example

3D modeling and Auto CAD also.

sure does cost alot. but what technology doesn't when it 1st comes out.
