The power went off for about 30 seconds 10 min ago and now I can not get my main pc to go past the post image. whats wrong? whats fried? I tried removing the vid card and trying the onboard vid, tried the ram 1 at a time in different slots and all I still get is the post image and thats it. I can not get into the bios or nothing.

That might get you somewhere. If that doesn't work, something might be fried.

if the cpu was fried would it do anything?

Most likely, not. You probably wouldn't be seeing anything if that was the case.

Ok I figured it out.

The printer is fried. I unplugged the usb cable that was going to my printer and it booted perfectly. Turned it off and back on and it posted fine.

Well the printer seems to be fine now. I dont know what happened. All I know was the printer was causing it not to post

If you printer has a card reader in it, check your bios to see if booting from external/usb devices is enabled. It might be polling the devices looking for bootable devices.

I usually try everything out in a new outlet if the power goes out.
Most of the time that fixes the problem and everything turns back on as regular.

Every now and again we have a freakish thunderstorm, and the surge protectors have to be replaced. I usually just unplug everything and read a book or magazine when it gets bad. Really afraid of lightning myself. There was a time it struck a building nearby and caught a palm tree on fire, anyway it layed me out on the ground from about 50- 75 feet away. Another time it struck a transformer in front of my car and blinded me temporarily with bright purple flashes of light, and yet another time it shocked my uncle through the keyboard when a lightning bolt struck a tree out front. Not to mention the scars it has left in the trees around here. It blows the crap out of the bark and scatters it about.

I have also had problems with USB Devices causing the computer not to boot.
It was a Digital camera one time, and a MP3 player the other time.
