Is America the only country that makes you do mail in rebates?

That's a good question. Surprisingly enough most of the rebates I have sent in have been honored. The thing to do is not spend much time filling them out. I just print them for everything I have purchased recently like print carts and stuff and mail it off at my next convenience. Sometime it pays to take them to the post office and mail them second day.
Damned expiration's.

I had an Eglish guy come in today to look at computers and was disappointed that our computers had mail-in rebates. He said: "America is the only country with these"

But aren't most, if not, all of the rebate houses still in the US?

MIRs are the only reason I can resell tons of new computer hardware on ebay for profit. Almost all of the people who buy from me are in other countries. Over half of them are in Brazil.

We have them in Australia as well and they take forvever to come through. I hate that how they report a price at the mail in rebate price.

Second that. One of the many reasons I like Newegg. I don't even consider rebates in my decision to buy anything any more. I buy it, I send for the rebate immediately and forget about it. I never expect to get it and I usually don't. If I do it's a bonus. I would have bought it without the rebate anyway.

I've been trying to remember where I read an article about rebates.
Basically the article was about how most people don't send in the rebates and the companies offering the rebates count on this to make a profit. One CEO said that if even 75% of the rebates were turned in, they would go out of business or stop offering them all together. The article also went on to show how some companies sit on the rebates until they expire then send out a sorry notice... A practice which is completely illegal.
