ok, my boss bought a new hard drive, and I scored a copy of windows XP Pro. Now heres the issue. I'm using the Key on the sticker on the computer. Windows wont take it, says its invalid. anyway to get around this? I looked into calling M$ but its $295 for a support call...WTF is that!!! :down:

Could it be that the Key is from SP1 or earlier and the install disc I'm using is SP2? :?

If its an OEM sticker, you may run into problems because the number is keyed to the OEM installation disk, and the number is not recognized by a retail XP CD. What brand of PC is it?

I more than like IS due to version mismatches, but like Overide said, since it is an OEM sticker, the disk must match.

You can activate Windows over the phone, it's free. In the activation window choose activate by phone.

It was during the install, so it wouldnt let me past the window where I had to enter the key, but I got it now, all set :up:
