I have a Coolermaster fan with a 4 pin connector (like a standard 3 pin... but with one extra. I'm wondering how I can override the PWM (that's what the 4th pin is) so it's at max speed... or I can control it...

I need to go and look at mine, but you can put a short between the power line of your fan, and the unused 4th line, that voltage on the 4th line makes the fan run @ max.

It is a bit loud, but it can be done with a staple or a paperclip bent to length to cover the distance then some little legs that can be bent so that they insert into the pin spaces and make contact with the pins in the little molex.

Make sense?

I thought it was something as simiple as that. The only thing now is can I make it pluse so I can control the fan speed?

Since it's the Hyper48 fan, you should know ;)

I might try and make a convertor or something so it's a easy fix for people without 4 pin fan headers....
I'll post up my solution as soon as I can.......

Hmmm.... just thought of something... can motherboards regulate the voltage going to the fans?

Ok, thanks to Tech-Daddy's link (check in his Boss FX57 Worklog) I just managed to override the PWM.... although the fan is louder, it's still not very bad! btw, I overrode the PWM with a bent Staple with a resistance of 0.4 Ohms.

All I need to do now is get the components to repair the motherboard and then make a special connector for this fan so I can disable/enable the slowest or full speed via a switch.
