I asked this seller on ebay if he would lower his price of the stepper motors he was selling from $6.65 to $5.00 if I were to buy his entire stock (about 40) and he responded with this..

When you consider that the U.S. dollar is acutually worth less than 17 cents and these precision stepping motors, with pinion gears cut into the shaft, the $6.95 I charge for the motor is a steel. These motors would cost $65 each, even if you bought them in quanitity. Sorry, but I will never sell them for less.

Not only is he rude but his spelling sucks.

I wouldn't say that was very rude, iv seen worse messages from people before.

altho I like "steel" =D

maybe this is what we could have in the sellers section or something. a place where our members can post about ebay sellers who are fussy or have a bad time with

I guess you just have a thicker skin than I do. If I had not already ordered 3 motors from him I would go to his competition and pay $5 extra per motor just so he did not get my money. Hell hes had the steppers on ebay for 4 months now and has only sold a total of 9 from the 51 he originally had. I thought I would be doing him a favor buying his entire stock for stepper motors that are over 15 years old. I run a business and would never be rude like that to any of my customers or clients. But I guess that's the difference from running a real business or a ebay store out of my basement.

What are stepper motors?

They are motors that rotate very slowly in steps. They number of steps per min or speed at which they rotate is controlled by a computer. Check out my 3d printer build and you will see them in use very soon.

It sucks that he wouldn't arrange something else with you seing as you did buy stock from him before. I guess his profit margin might to too low to give you what you want even if you would buy all of the remaining stock from him.

The sad thing is that there is people out there who will hold onto items for sale for years just to get the price they want, like being a ebay seller who sells every now and again the prospect of getting rid of everything at once with a cheaper price is not atractive as the items can collect dust untill the right price comes.

the good thing is that you have the ability to goto a differant supplier and do business with them. its even possible that you can come to the agreement of the same price of the other guy in a bulk buy to save your self $5 a motor.

Its just unlucky for him that he was to tight fisted to make a small deal to gain a instant profit.

Sounds like me.

I had a Magellan Spacemouse I put on ebay and got a lowball offer of $20. I waited almost a year, put it back up and got $125. Worth the wait for me.

I have done some quick clean outs and took the best price I could, but I needed the room, not the money.

He'd be saving $.50 on each one in paypal fees, alone. If he sold outside of ebay, he probably wouldn't be getting any less for them. If somebody makes an offer a little too low, I just politely say no.

The motors cost $65 each? I think I'd research that a bit.

If they cost $65 each, then why is he selling them for $6.50? That does work out to 11.05, however, since $1 = $0.17 :lick:

They are Nema 17 sized. They normally run between $12 and $17 each retail. The data sheet from these state they were built in the 80's and thus are old stock and not worth as much. What he thinks makes them unique is the splines cut into the shaft and them being double shafted. While this does add a little value, it does not add much. Today stepper motors are routinely coming with splines and double shafted are also common. Maybe back in the 80's they cost $65 each and were quite rare but its 2009 man. China pumps these things out like they do led tainted toys.

The reason I wanted them all was I was going to put a few McWire kits together and sell them. I assumed he would be happy to unload these old motors and move on to the next product. I guess that's what I get for assuming.

Yeah I too raised a eye brow at the hole $65 retail and the price what he is selling them for. at first I thought he just found them on a back of a lorry.

but then looking closer and hearing that they were quite old I could see why they are cheaper, the thing I dont understand is that yes the item in the 80s sold at that price but (old/used) items now would never sell for that price so I dont understand why he used that statment in his reponse as it has no relivence to the price of the item today.

The value of _anything_ is based on what someone else is willing to pay.

If you are willing to pay $65 each then that is their value. If you are only willing to pay $5, then that is their value to you.

I agree that he should be happy to get rid of all of them at once and move on. Maybe we should all send him an email and ask him to drop the price for bulk. Even low ball your offer and propose $4.50 ea. By the end of the month he may see your offer as golden.

Hehe

Well the steppers I did order from him before I asked the question came in today. I am a little angry. I paid $14.37 shipping on them. He shipped them in a $5 USPS flat rate box. I think I am going to leave bad feedback
