32gigs (8gb is really the only one I can afford atm) is simply not enough for me. Is there a way to maybe take a hdd from one of the 120gig classics and cram it in there? Or do they use flash memory as opposed to the 1.8" drives like the classics?

Too bad hey? I saw an instructable yesterday about swapping out the 1.8" hdd in a classic with a CF card slot, so you could swap cards on the go. CF cards are also tougher than the fragile hdd's.

you can upgrade the chips, my dad does it for people upon request i belive, but its a real bastard to do, also it voids your warrinty

I did it on my 4G color iPod. It's easy, only need some parts from ebay. : http://knsweb.net/wordpress/?page_id=217 (Spanish, but there are pics and a link to Instructables :) ) You need a different adaptor (also on ebay) for Video or Classic since both have a ZIF 1.8" HDD.

I have also a 2g Touch and replace the chip would be very cool, but is it really possible?

I have a classic. I really think Imma do this, just sucks that the cheapest 32gb cf card was like 70 bucks on newegg. a new 80gb hdd is only like 90-110 on ebay. oh well it still would be worth it. It would be cool to mod the back so you could interchange the cf card on the go. :think:

there standard flash memory chips, you just need to make sure they both use the same interface, there is one thing you should know thou, the ipod touch 16 and 32gb version, have about $40 worth of flash memory in them, a nice markup don't you think?

but i asked my dad he just yanks the chips from various flash memory devices, one thing he said is it's very hard to do, even an experienced electronics expert like him has trouble doing it as the flash chips are melted onto the board
