View Full Version : NorCal TBCS Lan Party?

OK, this purely fantasy at this stage, but...

IF I were to plan a Lan Party in San Jose;

1. How many people would attend?
2. What sort of games would you want to play?
3. What sort of activities would you like to see?
4. Would anyone be willing to help with planning and setup?
5. .......

My company has graciously given me permission to use our facility to host this event. We do not have great connectivity and that could be an issue, but if I have my way that problem will be solved shortly. There is plenty of parking, we are a stones throw from the airport and there are many computer stores close by. I was also thinking since this IS TBCS, we should have a case mod competition. I have never run one of these so I would also need input on judging and such. Maybe we could persuade Paul to be a judge (I can supply the Scotch).

Opinions?
Suggestions?

Thast a great lan pary planning link. Read all of it.

I would not be able to make it but here are some games I always love to play with a group of people.

Track mania nations forever -- 100% free
Return to Castle Wolfenstine -- 100% free
Urban Terror -- 100% free
Battlefield 2
COD4
Unreal tournament
Unreal tournament 3

For us out of towners, what airport would we be flying into, and what kind of accommodations are available in the near vicinity?

RTS's such as
Command and Conquor 3
Red Alert 3
Supreme Commander

Most any FPS is good in my book
Although I am pretty partial to BF2 :D

It really depends on what time of year it is whether or not I would attend.

I would definitely love to help out, I helped Evan Oberman and his The Vesl Lan tournament.

We do not have great connectivity and that could be an issue,

Most events you can get a sponsor such as comacast that will provide the networking solutions. If all else fails I have 3x 25 port switches here.

3 of the main lan games (all of which were played at lans I went to):

In no specific order...

1. Rainbow Six 3 Vegas 2
2. Call of Duty 4
3. Unreal Tournament 3

1. yes, I'd be down

2. Games? CoD4, WCIII. Probably some other stuff too but my computer isn't really a powerhouse, so stuff like UT3 is out of the question.

you could fly in to SFO, in south San Fransisco, about 40mi from San Jose. I'm sure you could find a cheapo Motel 6 or something in the area.

I would attend as well as probably 1-2 other of my friends :] Depending on how much time I have this summer I'll be making a case from scratch so that'll be interesting.

Games:

- CoD4
- L4D
- DoW2
- Killing Floor?

Those are the main ones I have right now. I'll be keeping tabs to see how this goes. I'm at Davis for college so it'll be a short drive over.

Short? Well, probably shorter than wherever you are now, but I'd say a two-three hour drive isn't "short"

Thanks for the input guys, keep it coming!

The company I work for is less than 5 minutes from San Jose International, 5 minutes to downtown San Jose as well. Lots of different accommodations and eateries within walking or a short drive. (but who the hell will be sleeping anyway? lol) Right next to the light rail as well.

Internal network gear is not an issue. We have GigE right now and I can "Borrow" 10g switches if needed. Our external connection is just a T1 so that is the major bottleneck. Looking into wiring the engineering department with Business class cable in a couple of months. With some of the software vendors going to a download only model, we need the speed just to get our jobs done.

I will read up on the info provided and post more concerns questions.

I missed this, so sorry about the gravedigging, but I would definatly try to be there, and help. I'm just east of Sacramento, so not too far to come down early to help.

I usually play UT2004

answer 1: there are no plans yet

answer 2: as long as you don't start trouble, I don't see why not. though right now it's just at the "hey, we should have a LAN" phase and not anything actually getting done.

However, having one would be a great PR for TBCS
