Resolution doesn't matter as long as it works and plays well with XP. The smaller the better, I plan to tear it apart for a mod.

Anyone have one gathering dust in a box somewhere?

I might be able to get one from a friend, because the driver is unsigned, so it won't work without going into the advanced boot options every time the computer is started up. It has a built-in microphone.

This one is pretty cheap. Looks like it would make for a decent "eyeball" mod.

nevermind1534-> Thanks very much, but I think I'm gonna go with the new one from Amazon. +rep anyway :D

Zephik-> Wow, that is cheap! I'll probably go ahead and get that one, thanks very much. +rep to you also

In case the inside of this is a solid board filling the interior, does anyone know of any that are cylindrical in shape rather than the eyeball shape? The mod I have in mind is limited in cross-section.

What about a PS2 eyetoy (http://video-games.shop.ebay.com/items/Accessories__Eyetoy?Platform=Sony%2520PlayStation% 25202&_catref=1&_dmpt=Video_Games_Accessories&_fln=1&_sacat=139969&_ssov=1&_trksid=p3286.c0.m282)? I use one as a web cam, takes some driver tweaking and it has a built in mic. More of the shape I think you're looking for too.

Hmmmmm, that's different for sure, but it's still pretty wide, at least the case is. I'll be ripping the guts out of whatever I get, and I don't guess I'll know how big the biggest part of the inside is until I crack it open. I guess I'm assuming if the case didn't have to be that big (to accomodate the biggest part) it wouldn't be. I may try that one though, they're cheap enough. Thanks and +rep.

Found an instructable (http://www.instructables.com/id/SP54LOJFDWI2MCL/) with an eyetoy break down. looks like the board goes all the way across. I'll see if I can crack mine open without destroying it when i get home this week.

Damn. That was promising. I know anything can be modded, but cutting PSB's down and rebuilding them is beyond me. :)

Could you just extend the wiring on a cam instead of trying to mess with the board?

Hmmmmm.... Not sure what all is actually inside a webcam, but if it's built right I don't guess there's any reason I couldn't take the lens or the sensor or whatever it uses to capture the image and extend the wiring from it to the board, and hide the board in the base of the thing. Interesting idea, thanks very much!
