Save Our Stuff (www.saveourstuff.co.uk)

Save Our Stuff is a business idea by one of our forum members Si-Skyline also known in the real world as Simon McGuire. The service firstly targets students to back up work and boost grades at university by not losing work, and secondly to professional business men to prevent vital work data being lost.

we will offer a service to family's what will be called turtle backups and will have some cool features to help kids get into the routine of backing there little paint documents up, and allow the whole family to get together on the act. The aim of the turtle backups will be to change the icons within a operating system to have a colour coded turtle on targeted files what need backing up. This for example could be a green turtle for its safe, orange indicate be careful it’s not backed up yet and red turtle to say there is a error to the backup server.

The main selling point is that it gets rid of "jargon" by not having per MB, GB or terabyte. Instead we have a file-o-meter what shows allowance/usage of file slots to make it easy.

The main office of Save Our Stuff is based in Sheffield centre and it is its aim to get support of local universities. Another angle Save our stuff are going is to allow people to come to the office and talk to staff and back work up in the office. Facilities we are intending to have are CD backups and other forms of digital medium, paper back-ups providing useful for students who have to hand write work because it is not uncommon for universities to lose work.
It is currently seeking small businesses of any size to help with promotion partnerships and give away free backup space to help build a reputation, for this PMing Si-Skyline or E-mailing information@saveourstuff.co.uk will start the process.

Currently Save Our Stuff is in a competition to win £5000 and its now in the finals. Needing the final push with ideas and things people want from it, the final round is to submit a full business plan by august 2009 what I'm working on now.

If you could be so kind as to full in a questionnaire for me this would be great.
Questionnaire here (https://www.surveymonkey.com/s.aspx?sm=x3e_2bGCDjLwrACXu_2f6wy_2bDw_3d_3d)

Any advice and such would be greatly appreciated, if so please just post here.

Please note this is not my project but Si-Skyline's (http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/forum/member.php?find=lastposter&t=19415)

The project seems interesting and I wish him luck.

I like the idea of the project, and it obviously would work well in the real world, but there are sites and such that do this, unless I am not understanding the full goal. First it seems that the idea is to get the customer to understand and complete regular backups via tutorials, then it seems to shift to a company design that has servers and such in order for the customer to back up to. The latter has been done, but was a good idea to base a project off.

I completed the survey for you. The survey itself seems skewed towards getting the answers you want in order to make the project seem feasible and worthwhile/good. I do not know if that is the goal, but some of the questions definitely are not neutral, and in my comments at the end I made mention of this.

Interesting project, and I like it, so all I can say is that I wish you the best of luck!

Hi, I have to say thanks to TBCS for letting this be posted here,

I also have to thank XcOM for creating the banner for the post and actually posting it here and doing a lot of leg work.

And oneslowz for creating the sticky :)

I completed the survey for you. The survey itself seems skewed towards getting the answers you want in order to make the project seem feasible and worthwhile/good. I do not know if that is the goal, but some of the questions definitely are not neutral, and in my comments at the end I made mention of this.

Also a thank you to you too for completing a questionnaire for me and everyone else who has too :)

I know they seem "cocked" or rigged, I have had a number of complaints about this. It is in fact not my intention for it to seem feasible. At the bottom line it is my aim for this business idea to become a success. If I kid myself and want cocked replies then I don’t know if it will actually work or not.

The reason for the questions at the end is to get hard results and that alone. I ask the statistic one to see if people attitude changed after seeing the statements. I believe that is the one most people think is cocked. In the end I decided just to delete them because they were doing me no favors.

I'm currently on 59 about 30% there :) keep em comming, people who leave their E-mail or other form of contact with automaticly be entered for the BETA testing and some other goodies what I have to think up of.

You can get your mums and friends to do it too, I do not mind the link going round your friends on facebook or any other social network site.

Hi everyone, Just a update what is going on this week.

DEADLINE: 2nd of august
REQUIRED: Submit a full five year business plan

Currently I am away on a business summer camp thing to help brush up on my business skills, network and to learn new ideas. Mainly having tons of fun, make friends and get quite drunk :)

--The types of things that have been going on since the first post is that I have got a soft security with an investor willing to put a sum of money in with my idea but, this is with a friend and possibly his father too. What do people think to that?

Would you do business with friends?

--Changing the questionnaire because allot has been said about it being rigged to more things look good.

--Looking for image designers and possibly make a better logo and images then what I can
--Looking for software programmers too
---Most interested in multiplatform languages like python, Java, C to ensure I can improve quality and have the ability to give the service to windows, mac (getting more important), Linux for you hardcore junkies.

If you want to get involved with a small business that is starting out or just support a forum member and also be in the running for some free stuff. PM me or E-mail information@saveourstuff.co.uk

Thanks,
Simon
