Ok I am in the process of designing a Tablet.

The basic Design concept in my head. --
A tablet that is actually powerful enough for me and a few other people to use if I make more.

The outer casing will be entirely aluminum probably, maybe anodized. I will probably want to put a wooden faceplate on it. probably out of oak to make sure it doesn't warp or anything from heat, just sand it down, stain it, and seal it.

The main problems I am running into that I need help with:
Power! It needs to run on batteries, i cannot seem to find anything that can help me figure this part out. Any help would be greatly appreciated here.

Then also i need to find a thin screen that will go from screen to dvi then to the mobo.

The mobo will be isolated inside all of the ports (sound, usb, Ethernet) will be sort of i guess extended to be on the side of the case i want it on.

I have decided i am going to use this motherboard - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813153124&Tpk=amd%20so-dimm%20motherboard

I will need to remove the stock heat sink on this and replace with it with a different one so that the tablet will be thinner.

So any help is greatly appreciated and i will start posting pictures as soon as I start ordering pieces.

It's not heat that warps woood, it's the change in internal moisture levels.
If it's a big panel of wood, you'll have trouble unless you dry it, plane it flat and seal it as dry, hoping that it won't pick up moisture next month on very humid days.

It might be possible, but I'd suggest plywood (or ally for lightness) and an oak veneer.

ok that would seem to be a good idea.
Do you have any ideas about the power, or the screen?

just put a marine battery in a backpack and then carry a dc-dc converter around with you. :P

just build a battery pack outta old cellphone batteries. won't hold a very long charge, but would work i bet.

Or try buying a laptop replacement battery, and find the appropriate battery charger.

I would just try and salvage parts from either laptops, netbooks, hand-held computers, etc etc. Look through ebay and maybe you'll find something.

It can't be too hard if you know where to get the parts. Crunch Gear is making their own Tablet and they've already had a couple functioning prototypes. When they first started they said they were working with some company that could create the tablet for around or less than $200.
