If you read through the whole thread, you will see that we are quite familiar with TES Nexux and UESP :p

Heh, sorry. Huge thread.

As for cheating: I did, when I was learning the game, with my first character, but now I don't. If I'm having a lot of trouble, I look it up or temporarily turn down the difficulty slider a bit. It can't be cheating if it's in the Options menu. :bunny:

Item hex codes with leading zeroes (such as gold, 0000000F, and lockpicks, 0000000A) can omit the zeroes (leaving F and A respectively). Of course, it's still cheating, but if you don't save before picking a lock, don't have the Skeleton Key yet, and go through an unusual number of lockpicks, there's nothing wrong with regaining a few.

player.placeatme is another cool command - rather than adding something to your inventory, it places it, well, at your feet. Fun to try with large items such as watermelons (336A0) - spawn a couple hundred and they bubble out of the ground and fill the street - but if you do it with more complicated items, such as sheep (151DD), too many will lock up the game and (hopefully) crash to desktop. Trust me. Additionally, overusing this can corrupt your save file, so don't make a habit of it if you plan to save afterward for any reason.

I also save twice. Had the corrupt save happen 3 times before I started twice.

man dont get me started on lock picks. I try and pick the very hard ones all the time. I went through over 150 the other night.

If you just want to increase your skill, it's a good way. I tend to ignore the Security skill altogether and just save before I attempt a lock, so that if I break too many picks I can just load and try again. I'm horrible at the minigame, between my already slow reflexes and the infuriating touchy, jerky motion of the lockpick from side to side. Easier to save first and auto-attempt a bunch of times.

I save often enough that one or two corrupt saves aren't a big deal, though the only trouble I've ever had was when the partition that held my save files filled up and it happily announced that it had saved the game, despite having no room to do so, eating a couple hours of gameplay.

I've had so much fun doing that. I did a bunch of nirnroots and the game basically became so slow that it took me like 5 minutes just to exist a small room. lol

You need the skeleton key! That thing has saved me many headaches and frustrations. You just keep clicking auto-attempt until you get it, and it still raises your skill too.

Update: Took me a couple hours, but I finally got full amber armor! Pics to follow in the other thread here shortly...

Working on madness now. I have the grieves and the shield so far. Those matrix's are a bitch to find.

You have to hit the pins a few times before trying to lock them; they don't follow a static behavior, sometimes they'll fall faster, sometimes slower, but it always fits a pattern. Find out the pattern for a pin, and then try and unlock that pin.

Anyone got a nice collection in their armory yet?

The boy 4rm oz

I did have, I had sets from the lowest crappiest armour to some of the best in the game. Unfortunately I no longer have the save file.

Something I did try once was downloading other peoples save files off of HEXNexus, it's pretty interesting to see how other people play, it also gives you an idea of how the game changes as you progress.

Ok I think I found a glitch in the game.

I was revisiting some of the dungeons seeing if anything new had spawned. I found 3 glass long swords in the back of one. I had to kill a few trolls, 2 bandits, and a ghost to get them. I also picked up some dwarven armor and some war hammers. So I was close to being over in-cumbered so I fast traveled to the nearest town to warp to my armory. When I spawn at the gate the 2 guards start attacking me for no reason. I have been a good boy lately and my last quest directly involved guards so I know I was clean then.

So I check my bounty and its at 3k. So I deposit my stuff in the armory and run out of town, and deep into the forest. I have to run half way across the map before the "enemy's near by" music stops playing. I fast travel back to the dungeon to pick up a few things I left behind and had to kill 2 more trolls that had spawned out side.

I kill them, grab my gear and fast travel back to a town. I think it was Chorrol. The guards attack me again and I look at my bounty and its 5k now. The game was treating the trolls as if they were solders or something. I go to jail and do my time and all is good.

O_o weird..what was the name of the dungeon? I'm curious to see if I can reproduce the results.

@Zephik: thanks for pointing out the Fin Gleam Helmet. That's, like, exactly what I had been looking for to take on the giant Slaughterfish....which, btw, has something interesting in it's belly that was a very nice addition to my looting suit.

Yeah, I got that. I might have to make a video to explain what I mean - basically, the mouse is very touchy when moving the pick from one pin to another, and if I move it at all to the left while setting a pin, it'll move over. It's a bit of a pain.

I do know that there's a repeating 'pattern', as you explained well. +rep for trying to solve the unsolvable, 'cos if that'd been my problem it'd be good and solved.

Ah, yeah, I have that problem too; I think it's a result of the lockpicking mini-game taking control of the mouse. You get used to it eventually, though it's still annoying. Alternatively, especially if you have the Skeleton Key, you could just mash auto-solve :P but once you get good it actually takes less time to actually pick it. Also, in reference to ignoring the security skill, as you get a higher security skill, it actually makes the mini-game easier. Fewer (and eventually no) pins fall if you botch one pin, I think the pins fall slower, and I think once you hit 'Master' you have a chance of not breaking a pick when you botch a pin..course by that time there's no excuse for not having gotten the Skeleton Key :P (which gives a +40 boost to security, btw)

I got the skeleton key a few days back. That was about the easiest quest on the whole game.

All the quests can be easy, depends what level you are at. As you level the quests become harder because the enemies level with you (to a degree).

Oneslowz28
08-06-2009, 07:24 AM
I'm either 20 or 21 I forget which. I also play with the difficulty set on about 3/4 (I just carry lots of healing potions and have a decent healing spell I created.

The boy 4rm oz
08-06-2009, 07:33 AM
The only spell I really used were the healing ones, wasn't really a big fan of offensive or buff magic, just smack em down with my warhammer and heal myself lol.

Oneslowz28

I have a spell I call 1337 Trifecta that incorporates all 3 of the destruction powers. (fire, frost, and shock) it deals 20% for each and also drains the magic of its target for 10 seconds. Hit a baddie with it once and it doesn't take but a blow or 2 from a weapon to kill them.

The boy 4rm oz
08-06-2009, 08:49 AM
I tend to use my skill points on strength etc so my majika is fairly low. I had a battleaxe which was "weightless", could be swung as quick as a short sword and it had a 50% chance to crit, I stole it out of a display case somewhere lol. At level 25 this battleaxe could take down a minotour in 3 -4 hits lol.

I have been doing a bit of reading lately (yeah I know, neglecting my uni work but whatever lol) and came across this. We all know that there have been little updates, little add-ons added to Oblivion along the way, the biggest being "Nights of the Nine" (Shivering Isles is an expansion, not an "official add-on"), if you didn't know about these click HERE (http://oblivion.wikia.com/wiki/Modification) for the lowdown. These add-ons can be purchased for around about $3-5 each and downloaded straight from Bethesda. Basically these add-ons add extra dungeons/areas to explore, new items, in some cases new enemies and always, more fun.

Are you ready, this is the stupid part. The retail version of "Nights of the Nine" comes with all previous add-ons before it, pre loaded to the disk, that is every add-on except "Fighter's Stronghold" (this was released later). Now get this, if you buy the GOTY edition, you receive none of these additional add-ons, meaning you need to purchase all of them separately if you are interested in checking them out. Is it just me or do you think I have been ripped off.

*EDIT*
On a brighter note, if you look at the bottom of the link i posted above there is a small list of top rated "Unofficial Mods", I recommend you try these out, I have and have really liked them. The BTmod is fantastic, doesn't mess with game play and makes the menus so much easier to use. Silgrad Tower is also quite good and a must have for lovers of the old Morrowind games. And last but not least, Ocean Studios, come on, who doesn't love pirates ;).

Oneslowz28

I have the game of the year edition that came with Nights of the Nine so it should have all these add ons right?

The boy 4rm oz
08-06-2009, 10:26 AM
Nope, your in the same boat as me, no add-ons. The GOTY version is a single disk with everything archived and crammed on there, it isn't the retail copy of Nights of the Nine, therefore no additional extras, sucks really. I am looking into buying them once I get my game back.

Oneslowz28
08-06-2009, 10:32 AM
actually my GOTY edition came with 2 disk.

The boy 4rm oz
08-06-2009, 11:19 AM
Actually, so did mine, I just looked it up, haven't seen it for over a year now :(, either way we don't get it. You need the separate, single retail copy of Night's of the Nine to get those add-ons. Pretty crap if you ask me. meh I think my mate has a copy of Nights of the Nine, when I got my GOTY back I will install it all, uninstall Night's of the Nine then reinstall off the single disk, save me having to buy all the add-ons.

x88x
08-06-2009, 11:38 AM
That's so odd, the 'Knights of the Nine' in the GOTY edition was just the 'Knights of the Nine' add-on? Well, that's what they get for calling the separate retail pack the same thing :P Way to confuse your fans, BethSoft.

Oneslowz28
08-06-2009, 12:35 PM
so if that is what nights of the nine is then what the hell was the nights of the nine that came with our goty disks

x88x
08-06-2009, 01:34 PM
One of the official add-ons is called 'Knights of the Nine', but the retail disc that they released a while back with all of the official add-ons released up to that point on it is also called 'Knights of the Nine'. I'm guessing that the 'Knights of the Nine' that came in the GOTY edition was just the one add-on.

edit: BTW, the retail 'Knights of the Nine' CD doesn't have any fancy bulk installation anything, it's just a data CD with the installers for the various add-ons dumped in there :P

Oneslowz28

Yep, hit the nail on the head. The GOTY edition of Nights of the Nine is just that add-on, the retail release comes with all add-ons prior. However as Fighter's Stronghold was released after Nights of the Nine you will still need to purchase that seperately if you want to try it out.

I encountered a bandit while walking through the swamp last night. That's nothing new though right? This bandit was different. Could not kill him. It hit him with everything I had, including some strong destruction magic. I must have hit him 30 times with Umbras sword and he still only had a tiny dent in his health. He was wearing chainmail light armor and was carrying a dwarven bow. All armor and weapons were unenchanted. So he was nothing special. I wound up killing him using the console. I did find 2000 gold on him and 2 flawless diamonds along with 12 lock picks, and 3 grand soul gems. It was south east of layawind.

The boy 4rm oz

Oneslowz28

I think I remember him casting a few spells before I got to him so he could have cast a few fortify health spells or something similar to make himself less damage resistant.

@Oneslowz28: How far SE of Leyawinn was this bandit? What race? Was he labeled as a bandit, not a name? Did you get bounty for killing him? What mods are you running that might have added him? I'm very curious to find this guy :P

Also, the fact that he was wearing chainmail armor when your char is lvl 20+ is very odd...

On a semi-related note, has anyone else found the "Isolated House"? It seems to just be a random house out in the middle of nowhere, with two bandits living in it...well, not so much with the living anymore  but you get the idea. The weird part is that it doesn't show up on my map.

EDIT: Found a uesp entry on it; apparently it's supposed to have an Oblivion gate in it..*shrugs*

He was a shadow-scale. Maybe 2-3" almost dead southeast of layawin. He was labeled as just "bandit" I should have went to the console and got his number. I went back to find his body but its not there any more. I got no bounty at all. All I have installed is the addons that came with the GOTY edition and the Armory mod. He was honestly harder to kill than umbra.

Oooohh, I think I know who that was. Shadow-scales (assuming you didn't mean Argonian in general) are Argonian assassins. There's a side-quest for the Dark Brotherhood where you have to go kill a rouge shadow-scale in about that location. I'm gonna guess that if you find him before accepting the quest that he just appears as the bandit that you found.

Though I don't remember him being extraordinarily hard to kill..

The boy 4rm oz

He was probably hard to kill because he was a quest item and the quest wasn't active, stuff like that has happened to me before but not to this extent.

Oneslowz28
08-11-2009, 11:14 AM
I meant argonian I couldn't remember the actual race name. I killed the shadowscale for the argonian in the dark brotherhood a while back but this was close to his camp.

I'd say 2012 at least. "Not anytime in the near future" would not be 2010 or 2011, at least not in my book. 2010 is right around the corner, 2011 is only like a year and half away. Although, I suppose it could be 2011. But my guess is still 2012. Just seems like the right year.

This is typical of Elder Scrolls though. They take forever to create new games, but as you can see, they're worth it once they do come out. I can't imagine what the next game will be like, they've always made leaps and bounds between games so they have a lot to live up to. Probably why its taking so long.

I can't believe it was released in 2006. It seems like FOREVER ago but its only been like 3 years. Shivering Isles was 2007.

Like the post mentioned, the Elder Scrolls line have always been very popular games. I think every one of the major games (TES I, II, III, IV) have been awarded multiple 'game of the year' awards.

Personally, I'm hoping that TES V will be a giant MMO covering the entire continent...except that if that happened, my general productivity in...life...would drop exponentially. Of course, I also hope that TES V (whether an MMO or not) brings back some of the stuff from Morrowind. Bring back teleport spells and transportation services, ditch fast-travel, and make armor complicated again! Oh, and if we could have darts and crossbows again, that would be awesome. And werewolves. Gotta love werewolves.

The boy 4rm oz

x88x
08-20-2009, 11:59 AM
Heheh, nice. You can actually download both TES I and II from Bethesda Softworks' website for free. They released I for free on TES' 10th anniversary, and II on TES' 15th.

Zephik
08-20-2009, 02:02 PM
I'm hoping that the game will cover the entire continent too, except redo it all so its nice and fresh. Maybe include some old well-known places for nostalgia, except have them like in ruins or highly developed or something. Make all of the old rare armor like glass and daedric super ultra rare like a lost technology or something but totally awesome and introduce a crap ton of new never before seen equipment. Maybe add in some things like what you would find in DII where you can have socket-able equipment and gems and stuff on top of the ability to enchant.

And I definitely want it to be an MMO, especially if the game is going to be that huge. Nothing crazy like WoW, but just so there is a reasonable amount of people per server and per area that your in. I want it to be semi-rare to see other players, but not so rare that you almost never see anyone.

x88x
08-20-2009, 02:26 PM
I also think it would be cool to see it work kinda like EVE, with players controlling at least a large portion of the workings of the world. Like, start off with smallish towns, and players can be adventurers, shop keepers, architects or artisans (TES Construction Set FTW!), or any number of things. I'd also like to see the different races actually start out in their home regions, and then they could from there either choose to live in their region or immigrate to another region. I think there's enough lore already in existence for it to be an incredibly deep game, especially if BethSoft were to draw on their fanbase to expand it.

For anyone who hasn't seen a map of the entire continent of Tamriel, that site has a nice display of it.

Yet WoW is still bigger than even all of Tamriel. lol crazy.

And the thing is, if they stay true to Warcraft lore there will be about 3-5 more expansions, if they make the world to true scale, there are about 4 more continents/areas to go lol.

I never actually realized how big Tamriel was, I guess that's because really the only Elder Scrolls game I played was Oblivion, I must install ES2 lol. They really should make an Elder Scrolls MMO, there is more than enough lore and area to give it a good shot, but if they make it crappy and photo realistic like WoW, I will definitely not be giving t a go lol.

Zephik
08-21-2009, 01:35 AM
As far as MMO's go, just keep it like it is now except let other players join the game with you. KISS! Keep it simple stupid!

I DO NOT want another WoW. Although, that would be pretty hard to stop from happening if they made TES into a MMO. Oh well, life sucking gaming it is, at least it'll kick ass.

...and PLEASE let people be able to create their own items that way we aren't stuck with just what the game developers have to offer. Make everyone into their own game developer. That'd be cool. Its kind of like enchanting really, except you get to alter the physical aesthetics too, within reason of course. If someone could make Nervershatter, I'd love to see what else could be made! Maybe Nervershatter armor. :p

x88x
08-21-2009, 12:05 PM
Well, they've had the TES Construction set at least since TES III, IDK about before that, Morrowind was my first.

The problem with using that with an MMO would be that people would make crazy weapons/armor/etc that would completely unbalance the game. It would have to have some sort of screening process or something. Maybe an automated system that evaluates the attributes of the item and sets a price on it that the player can then buy in-game at a private store?

Case in point:
Just because I could, in Morrowind I used the TESCS to make a special ring. IIRC the enchantment was '1000 pts fire damage on 1000 ft on target' with a charge usage of 1. Yay for nuking towns from a distance :P

Alright, I can't for the life of me remember what to do next in the main quest. I've collected all of the books, talked to that one chick about them, and now it just says like I should investigate matters on my own further or something like that. There's no marker or person it tells me to see, just study the books for clues or something like that. Anyone know or remember what to do now?

You might have to actually read the books, and figure out where to go from that (ah, I miss Morrowind ;p ). Alternatively, get the quest title from your journal and search UESP for it.

Same with my old system. But this one for some reason it just likes doing it just to piss me off I swear. lol

Google "Oblivion BSOD", there are a ton of results. None of them helpful at all though. The only thing I can think of is overheating, but I feel it and it doesn't feel hot at all, just warm. SO IDK. I just roll with it and pray it doesn't keep doing it. It seems to do it far less often when I have it windowed instead of full screen though.

Oh yeah! I remember that now! It took me so long to figure out what those headings meant.

I guess they did still put in a few puzzles, even if I don't remember them :D

That was one of my favorite parts of Morrowind; having to puzzle things out and find maps and notes and talk to people, in order to actually find stuff. It made for a much more immersive game, imo. Oblivion has a lot of features that make the game a lot easier, but they also take away a little of the spirit of the game, imo.

I'd get the Bioshock and Oblivion bundle and just get Shivering Isles down the road sometime.

I'm getting really annoyed.

I closed the Oblivion gate and then was transported back to the front lines where the guard captain: Savlian Matius was.

I've read a few walkthroughs and they all say that The guard captain will go with you back in the church where Brother Martin is. Then everyone is supposed to leave together out the locked door in the church, but they don't. I spoke to the captain and he acts like the gate is still open. One of his guards recognizes that it is closed and so do all of the people in the town of Kvatch.

Brother Martin is acknowleding that he's ready to go to Weynon Priary and does follow me. When we get to the priory no one there recognizes that brother Martin is standing right next to me.

So it seems like somehow I've got to get the guard captain to recognize that the Oblivion gate threat is over. Any ideas?

Hahaha, yeah. Certain merchants will only buy and sell certain things, but yeah, pretty much anything you find can be sold. You can even sell stolen stuff if you join the Thieves' Guild and get a fence. As for houses, there's one house in each city that you can buy, but sometimes it requires...a bit of work. In each city, ask around for rumors and you'll find someone trying to sell a house.

Oneslowz28

Yea get off the main quest and start doing the side stuff. The game is much more fun with the side quest

FuzzyPlushroom
09-30-2009, 12:55 AM
Playing only the main quest in Oblivion is like taking interstate 95 up through Maine: sure, it's not bad on its own, but you'll have a lot more fun, though it'll take longer, if you drive up Route 1 and the roads that parallel it along the ocean and through the various fishing villages. You'd miss out on so much if you ignored the side quests, it'd hardly be worth it.

As far as selling things, just walk into a building with a sign out front in any town; if there's someone behind a counter, have a chat and click the middle icon at the bottom (I honestly can't remember what it looks like, you can hit me if you like!). Shops have cheesy storelike names, sometimes related to their specialisation: Fire and Steel is a blacksmith's shop, Colovian Traders is a general store, and others such as Renoit's Books should be obvious. General traders will buy anything; blacksmiths will buy weapons and armour; magic shops will buy books, alchemical apparatus and ingredients, and soul gems; innkeepers will buy food and booze, and everyone will purchase clutter (such as plates/utensils, pelts, and the like; much of this is worthless). Without mods, the only people who will acknowledge stolen items are Thieves Guild fences.

Details on getting the best deal can be found here (http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion:Mercantile); the maximum amount shopkeepers will pay for your wares depends on their disposition toward you and both of your respective Mercantile skills.

x88x
09-30-2009, 11:40 AM
On a related note, I found that once I got well into the Fighter's Guild stuff, the best deal on repairs was from the various Fighter's Guild porters. You know, that annoying guy that follows you around the building to keep you from steeling stuff? :P

The boy 4rm oz
09-30-2009, 12:10 PM
I put that guy to sleep then stole the stuff anyway lol. A tip for you all. When you are doing the Thieves guild quests and need to sell gear to the fences the easiest way to do it is to just go to the fighters or mages guild (if you are a member) and take the stuff off desks and shelves, cos you are a member they don't care lol.

FuzzyPlushroom

The "Strange Door" is actually an entire island; it's the entrance to the Shivering Isles. If you don't have that expansion pack, the 'door' you found is just a nearby (south of there) trapdoor exit from a quest I've long since forgotten. Pretty sure there's a giant slaughterfish and some steel armour on the other side.

I just looked it up and it goes here (http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion:Bravil_Wizard%27s_Grotto#Bravil_Wizard.27 s_Grotto), as part of this Thieves Guild quest (http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion:Arrow_of_Extrication).

Yup, there's a giant slaughterfish in there :D Stupid thing was pretty tough to kill too. If you kill it right under the hole into the lower cave it'll float up through the upper cave and you can see it's size in relation to you...thing if freakin HUGE. Assuming the a dark elf is about 5'6", the giant slaughterfish would be about 15' long, iirc.

I gotta ask, did it not occur to you that maybe there was a reason why this random guy in black robes woke you up and started talking to you?

TheGreatSatan

Maybe. I didn't think it mattered who I killed. I guess all the guys with black robes are dark brotherhood members? Whenever I go into those run down Lord of the Ring Elvish looking buildings they're in there and I kill a lot of them. That should be my new mission. Find and kill all of them

I also love going into sewers and caves

Nope, actually only the leaders of the Dark Brotherhood wear robes. What you're seeing in the Ayleid ruins are probably necromancers.

And yeah, something like 90% of the named NPCs in Oblivion have something to do with a quest of some sort. If you just go around killing everything you're missing out on sooo much of the game.

Like I said. The fighter's guild says I have to meet with someone in order to get back in, but I don't know where to look for this person

According the the great UESP, you just have to go talk to Vilena Donton and fetch her a bunch of bear pelts.

Some of my weapons say they don't have enough of a charge to be "enchanted" anymore. How do I recharge them?

Zephik
10-03-2009, 12:48 AM
You have to find someone to recharge items. It can get pretty costly first starting out, though. But, in some magic shops and/or most mage guilds you'll find someone.

FuzzyPlushroom

If you find soul gems that already contain a soul, you can use those 'points' toward recharging a weapon as well by using the gem and selecting the weapon in question. You can fill empty soul gems, too, but that's a pain and requires either a spell or a specially-enchanted weapon of its own.

I believe you can also use Varla stones to recharge items, which can be found in aeylied ruins. They're a bit rare though. I just cheat by doing a "player.additem XXXXXX x" code in the console, replacing the X's with the items code and the small x with how many you want. It's not really an advantage I think, since they weigh freaking 1 pound each and you go through so quick you tend to carry a bunch at a time.

x88x
10-03-2009, 02:19 AM
Varla stones will completely refill all the enchanted items in your inventory, so if you carry around a lot of enchanted stuff they're really handy. There's generally one per Ayleid ruin, with a few exceptions that have a lot (like, 4-5).

Oneslowz28

you killed him?

TheGreatSatan
10-03-2009, 11:09 PM
Yep. I bought the haunted house in Anvil and completed the mission that makes it mine. I've been storing all my goodies there that I've pillaged. I have over 50 Varla stones and every time I find one of the Ayleid statues I sell them for 500 each to Umbacanno.

x88x
10-04-2009, 12:08 AM
Heheh, nice. I never actually found out about Umbacanno until my most recent run through...before that I just horded them :P

I love the hidden basement chamber in that house.

TheGreatSatan
10-04-2009, 06:50 PM
I didn't know about that chamber.

I finished all of the statues. Time to do his other quest

x88x

It's the chamber that what-his-face that you had to kill was in.

TheGreatSatan
10-04-2009, 11:40 PM
After the 3rd statue he gave me another quest. I finished getting all the statues before I wanted to start that one, but now it's gone. I can't figure out what to do

TheGreatSatan

I read about what's supposed to happen. Once out of the ruins, the rival hunter ambushes you. I went to the site and killed the ambush party in advance. I'm going to try the console to open the door inside the ruins and get what's inside.

I would love to have a t-shirt that says "TES IV: I <3 Console". haha

Here is a great one if you get into a pinch or you are about to die with no chance of potion recovery. "Killall". It kills EVERYTHING within a pretty wide radius. or you can just click the individual dudes and type "kill". You can also type "resurrect" to bring them back to life. Although that doesn't always work for quest dudes, sometimes after rez'ing they just become normal people that don't do anything, so be careful as its not fool proof.

TheGreatSatan
10-11-2009, 10:29 PM
OK I went back to the arena where that leader of the brotherhood was still laying there. I used the console to resurrect him. He stood up, all his clothes reappeared on him, then he became near invisible and walked out of the building. I don't know if he'll just start off where he's supposed to or what.

Jaffre still doesn't see Martin standing right next to me, but that's all so far. I guess the main mission is scrapped for me. I may install the game on another computer so I can play the main mission and not get confused on what saves I have to keep. I completed all the recommendations and am nnow totally in the guild.

I'm a level 17 and just don't want to lose all that work just to play the main mission

Zephik
10-11-2009, 11:28 PM
Ah, the benefit of having multiple saves. Its like a time machine, so if you screw up you can just go back a little ways and do it again. But if I remember correctly, you said you weren't creating multiple saves, so...

What you could do is start the game over and then manually raise your character's stats and level to what they are now. That way you don't have to regain all of that experience and what-not.

Now, you're probably thinking, well that's fine and all, but I don't want to have to redo all these quests and stuff either! If that's the case, then you can actually complete quests via console commands as well. You can pick what stage in the quest to complete up to as well, if you don't want to complete the entire quest.

As for special items, quest rewards, etc etc, you can also get those through console as well.

That's one option anyways. You can literally do just about anything and everything via console, if you're willing to spend a little bit of time researching and entering codes anyways.

TheGreatSatan
10-12-2009, 12:41 PM
I can definitely look into that. But at least if I do some of the quests again, they'll be a lot easier

Zephik
10-12-2009, 04:12 PM
That's true. When I first played Oblivion, it took me months to get to level 20. Last time I played, which was just recently, I got to level 40-ish in like what? A month or so? Granted, the first time I played I didn't use console since I didn't know how. But I still stuck to the game without too much help from console this time around too, just to keep it interesting. It gets boring too fast if you use console too much.

However, it is SO nice to know the "kill" and "killall" code when you're in a pinch between a bunch of baddies, have no more potions and are about to die. It has saved me numerous times. I'm too addicted to running into large situations and seeing if I can survive against many foe. ...I usually can't. But its fun anyways. lol

Edit: Hot damn this is one long thread! lol

I always use use god mode in the console, mostly to get over the over-encumbered problem and it get's me to stay healthy. I also use the console to give me all Daedric armor and the bound sword. With all that, I'd easily start over

OK. I restarted the game and followed the main quest. I gave myself all Daedric armor and the bound sword at the start. I used the console to give me $100,000 too. When I got the chance I went to the Arcane city and bought the Lightning Blast from Raminus Polus and went from there. I didn't use the console to boost my stats at all.

I finished the main quest last night. I was sorry to see Martin die, but happy to loot the bodies in Paradise.

I remember a while back we talked about how flying around Cryodil would be awesome... Well I found this mod on File planet. Its called Akatosh Mount and lets you summon a drake to fly around the map. http://www.fileplanet.com/hosteddl.aspx?/planetelderscrolls/fms/files/oblivionmods/2774/Akatosh_Mount_By_Saiden_Storm_Release_19_Repackage d.7z

That is awesome, I am really going to have to try it out.

Oneslowz28
01-10-2010, 11:11 AM
I installed it last night and Cryodil is quite interesting from the sky.

Adding the mod enables a new summon spell. When you cast the spell it adds a new summon drake spell. There are several to chose from and as far as I can tell they are the same drake just different colors.

I also went on a personal quest to collect every nirnroot on the map. I found a mod that exploits a unused sound file that was over layed but muted on all nirnroots during the design process. Now when I come within 20-40 feet I can actually hear the nirnroot and tell where it is.

There are a few more mods I am going to add in the next few weeks. One that adds an additional 15 hours and a new guild to the game.

Keep us posted on those mods, they sound awesome.

I went to install Oblivion yesterday and it installed fine. I started a new game, made the character and as soon as it drops me in the prison cell the game crashes. Apparently this is an ongoing problem with Oblivion and can not be fixed, looks like no more Oblivion for me :(.

Try rolling the save file back; that happens to me occasionally, where a save file will get corrupted and every time you try and load it the game will crash.

@TBFO have you downloaded the latest official and unofficial patches? YOu can get the unofficial ones from tesnexus.com

The mod I am talking about that adds 15 hours of play adds an Archeology Guild and you go on artifact finding missions.

@ x88x - Yeah I have tried that, the problem is happens with any save file, old, new or downloaded, as soon as it loads a picture the game crashes.

@ Oneslowz28- I have the game fully patched with official patches but not the unofficial ones, I will try those later. Cheers.

I finally found out what my problem was with Oblivion, funny thing is though, I discovered it when I recently purchased Fallout 3.

As most of you would know both Oblivion and Fallout 3 were (and still are) extremely buggy, so it came to no surprise to me that I am having the exact same problems with Fallout 3 as I do with Oblivion. As I stated earlier the problem is that the game would crash every time I load a save game or create a new game. After having no luck finding a solution for Oblivion I decided I would try out Fallout 3 and see if I could get that working. Most of the issues with Fallout 3 have been accredited to sound card issues or codecs. After spending a couple of hours fiddling with my sound as a last ditch effort I disabled it in device manager and lo-and-behold the game works perfectly. I am yet to test Oblivion to see if this fixes the problem (hopefully it will) but when I do I will let you know. Looks like it's back to on-board sound for me :(.

x88x

I actually had the same issue with Fallout 3 crashing all the time, and I eventually figured out that apparently the Xonar driver is known to cause that behavior....I just never had the patience to switch back and forth between my onboard sound and my Xonar whenever I wanted to play Fallout3, so I just dealt with it crashing a lot.
