Here's a blast from the past.... This was the first PC I ever built from scratch - all new parts, nothing recycled...
Before this, I'd upgraded my previous PC's so much they were effectively new builds, but this was the first time I started with nothing but a pile of boxes and ended up with a PC....
If memory serves, was an Athlon XP 1700+ with 1024MB ram (HUGE ram for the time) and had all kinds of goodies inside including an Audigy 2 Platinum (which was the utter utter dogs danglies) lol - I actually managed to totally fill the external bays - the reason for the 4 optical drives is this was back when DVD burners were still a small fortune and CD burners weren't much better, so I had a CD Rom and a DVD rom to minimise the usage on the burners.....

Pic taken 10th Jan 2004 but I think I'd built the PC about 6-10 months before that...
I remember paying a small fortune for the case - and ironically enough, not a month ago I bought the same case again on ebay for less than 10% of what it originally cost - it may become a project one day but I'm going to get all (or most) of my in-progress stuff tidied up first....
The only mods were the little rocker switch on the front which turned on a pair of 4" Cold Cathodes behind the grille to make it glow a bit - I remember thinking that was SOOOOOO cool lol, and a pair of round windows in the side panel which looked REALLY badly cut heh
The PC went with me when I went to Australia for a year and came back in a Yeong Yang 0221-B server case - the Chieftec ended up as the server for a small computer shop I worked in while I was over there...
The Audigy didn't make it back - ended up being ebayed while I was there to make enough money to bring my stuff home - I think the black ones never made it to the land down under so it was something of a rarity - I got nearly 3x what I paid for it if memory serves
