Sci-Fi executives knew people weren't going to immediately like
their rebranding, but they're hoping viewers will come to accept it.
The 16-year-old network will officially change its name
to Syfy to signify a new direction in its programming.

I knew it was the beginning of the end when they started airing ECW Wrestling on Tuesday nights. :( I am a big Science Fiction fan, so when I saw the ads last month for the SyFy name change, I figured it was NBC wanting to branch it out more.
Its been SyFy for a week now and no changes so far. They started the new series Warehouse 13 that seems to have some pretty good potential, and of course Eureka is back, which I have always liked. I believe Stargate:Universe is still a go for October so hopefully it wont turn into the monstrosity that TechTV became in the form of G4.

I agree, I love'd the sci-fi network so I really just hope it goes well and doesnt stray to far from what it was. As long as they still have startgate, Eureka, and friday frightnight I'll be happy but if it does go bad they will loose a termendous amount of viewers.

Meh. I couldn't care less. Now, if they would had done this years ago, that would be a different story. But I don't care for Sci-Fi/SyFy anymore. They dug their own grave and built their own coffin as far as I'm concerned, I'm kind of just waiting for them to take the dive and start burying themselves.
Maybe they should rename themselves "rerun", since that's the only time I ever watch their channel. Although BSG was pretty good, but that was pretty much the end of it. I doubt they'll get that lucky again. or maybe I'm just being hateful for turning some of the best memories of my television childhood into what it is now.
Anyone else remember Mystery Science Theater 3000, Farscape and even Sunday Night Anime? Oh god that was some good stuff. Some of those anime's were ultra gory and violent too, good luck trying to find that on the tube these days.
At least now I can say "Yea, I remember when they were Sci-Fi, they were good back then. Then they went full retard and so they changed their name to fit their new image." Lesson I'll teach my kids someday: Never go full retard.
Oooohhhh, I thought I had a new channel.

Sci-Fi was never very good in my opinion. I watched when they did the Dune miniseries, but there is little there that I liked enough to tune in for. I hope they are able to change their image and appeal to a wider audience with the re-branding.

SciFi seems to have had a few good series over the years (Stargate, etc.), but a lot of those B or C quality "horror" films they showed all the time are stupid. My grandpa has a massive collection of them on VHS and he really enjoys them for some reason. But they changed their name to SyFy? What's that short for? lol

I ate Chik Fil A twice today. Wish I could go back for more but they're closed. :(

I read somewhere that when they were trying to figure out what to change the name they wanted to stay with Sci-Fi but move to something new. Someone piped up with how would you text it. Its on the Sci-Fi website I think. I like the ideas for new show and Stargate: Universe is still on for October like OvRiDe said before. They moved Eureka to Fridays so now I have to catch that when I get home from work. I loved Warehouse 13 when I saw it and the restart of Eureka cracked me up. Sanctuary and the new Stargate are both starting in October.
