That has to be the ugliest website I have ever seen. Possibly a contender for the ugliest website in the world? lol

I wish I had some skillz, I would design one for them because that's just sad.

Almost as ugly as this. Talk about a flashback to the late 90s.

Edit: Removed link, see Dan's comment below.

Edit: I have a better idea. Does anyone know of any good website template sites or whatever you call them? I'll send them a link to a good one or something. ANYTHING is better than what they have now.

Wow. Was not aware of that. AVG shows nothing wrong with that page. I'll remove the links and do a bit of investigation. Could turn into a business lead!

Man that site is sad. They need to pray to the Drupal gods to be updated.

Just to be different.....

Technically, that site isn't bad at all - it loads quickly, it's clear and concise - it's easy to read, no "mystery meat" anywhere - sure, it isn't pretty, but it's effective regarding it's goals....

Never heard of "Web Page Maker V2" though - so some of the blame may lie there instead of with the Author, Julius Vichinsky...

Wow... well I have to say this makes me sad. I am the author of the website. When I made it I was just learning how. I knew it looked poor and have since learned some photoshop and dreamweaver. The site got updated but do to the local internet provider screwing all the businesses in the area. postfallstheater.com was shut down .. the new site is postfallsmovies.com I would love to read your feedback about it now. Thanks.. and webpagemaker v2 is a crappy program for sure.

Welcome to TBCS Julius Vichinsky :D

Did you find your way here by coincidence?

Here is my brother in laws theatre site. http://www.cineluxtheatres.com/

I have installed most of the POS and sinage systems in those theatres as well as completely re-tiling 2 of them. I used to be able to log in and watch the camera and muck with the signs. I have a script on one of the systems so I can change messages on the marquee in front of each theatre door. I will have to check to see if my access is still there.

That is a 100% improvement!

I'd say toss the QuickTime video in the upper right corner. I'd definitely go with flash at least. Check out Digg.com as they usually have decent examples of animated flash advertisement sections. QuickTime is so slow and bulky, it's one of those things that I wish people would just never use as there are plenty of other better options. Give it a thought or two in any case. QuickTime on slower connections definitely kills sites for people.

Otherwise, just keep making small improvements here and there and I'm sure it'll be one heck of a nice website in no time! Like I said though, it's already a massive improvement.

Edit: And as Slave basically said below, KISS it. Meaning, Keep It Simple Stupid. That's always helped me to keep that in mind whenever I do designing kind of stuff, such as landscaping or modding, etc.

I do a lot of web design, although I admit I do so reluctantly - the "fun" of it has long since passed away, but I do remember what it was like when I first started doing it and then getting totally disheartened by utterly negative and unhelpful comments. As I mentioned before, the most important thing about any website is that it works - it has to get the information across and yours does. In time you'll develop a little more skill at the graphics side and you'd be amazed how much of a visual impact a relatively minor graphical change can make to the overall appearance.

I'll be honest and admit that I don't remember how the old site looked. It has been close to a year since my last comment, but what you have there now is definitely a promising start. As time passes you'll pick up little tricks which you'll be able to try out and you'll soon get the site from "pretty good, especially for someone pretty new to web design" to one which will end up being considered "not bad at all" without any commentary on how long you've been at it.

Time is a great teacher - just be careful not to get carried away with too many fancy tricks - remember, no matter how pretty or clever it looks, if it doesn't get the information you need across, and make that information easy to find, it's pretty much pointless. Practical always comes first, pretty comes second. Professional you shouldn't think about at all - once you nail the first two, that comes along all by itself.

The comment I made about it loading quickly still stands too - most people have relatively high-speed internet now, but you have to remember that there are still going to be folks out there with low end connections and some with dialup so be careful not to exclude them with high bandwidth add ons.

Other than that, you're heading in exactly the right direction.
