Plexiglass

Hi! Found these message boards the other day and they have inspired me to mod my case. I am making a Boston Red Sox themed case. But when I try to drill the plexiglass in on the side of the case every thime it cracks:mad: . Any tips for this problem or the case. Thanks

what kind of drill bit are you using?

I thinnk 1/8 inch but I'm not 100% but I'm think of just hot gluing it on.does that work?

Try slowing down the drill bit to the slowest possible speed. Also make sure that the drill bit is sharp. Also don't put too much pressure on the plexi as this can cause it to crack. Take your time for the best results.

Got gluing would work but using the double sided tape might be a little better.

also look at Crenns message above mine that might help with the drilling. Only other thing I can think of is make sure your keeping the plexi flat. If your drilling and its bending. That may also cause it to crack/break.

i used bits meant for wood last time i was drilling plexi, and it seemed to work perfectly fine without cracking

I think I am going to use the tape idea. The plexiglass is just big enough to cover the window. So what I think what I am going to do is tape the window down and just put the fancy screws in the case, so they will be just for looks8) .

I've always used dull bits, actually. Yes, tape everything, and go smallest size first, then work your way up. Also keep it slow; if your scrap isn't coming off as clean flakes, you are melting it.

Onto the actual project? Double-sided tape won't last forever. If you're going to use something like that, there are double-sided adhesive "foamies" (not sure what they are actually called, but you see them holding plastic hooks to walls).

Try going to a hardware store and just wander the aisles. I find most my stuff there (REALLY good place to find wire management supplies).

The is a double sided clear version of the foam tape that has held a piece of acrylic in one of my mods for a year and a half now.

The double sided tape will hold on to the plexi as long as the surface it's mounting onto is clean and that humidity is within tolerance of the adhesive.
