View Full Version : How far in debt is the US again?

I read somewhere recently the the US deficit had recently hit one trillion dollars. That's a lot, but think of it like this: If we put a dollar into a piggy bank every single second it would take just over thirty-one thousand years to pay off.

You were about $7 trillion in debt before the bank, auto industry and other bail-outs.
Now no one knows for sure because of all the secrecy but it's about double that now - in nine months.
Your government borrowed the money from the Fed, then gave it back to the Fed (a private bank), is now paying interest on it ... to the Fed ... then the Fed gave it to the banks .... that own the Fed .... the banks that own the Fed are now making healthy profits.
But you all owe roughly around $30,000 more (including each and every one of your children) than you did a year ago. Worth it to save the banks (not).
And the banks are smelling good .....
Goldman Sachs profits up here come the bonuses

$7 trillion??? There I go listening to the mainstream media again. So that's only two hundred seventeen thousand years. (As of nine months ago.)
Excellent points all about no one knowing how far in debt we are. I sure am proud of my country!
(As sarcasm doesn't come across well in text, I'll make it clear: that was sarcasm.)

I'm English. Sarcasm is a way of life here, except for those too dull to have a sense of humour ;)

For example, during 2008 the budget deficit was $455 billion but the national debt increased by $1 trillion, the first time it has done so in a single year.[2] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_public_debt#cite_note-1)[3] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_public_debt#cite_note-2) The total debt has increased over $500 billion each year since FY (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fiscal_year) 2003, considering both budgeted and non-budgeted spending.[4] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_public_debt#cite_note-3)

Such a shame, we had a budget surplus back in 1999. Good thing we elected a president who lowered taxes while simultaneously involving us in a handful of illegal and unnecessary wars! I love the people in my country. To think, we might have actually paid a good chunk of it down by now, good thing George W. Bush saved us from such a terrible fate!

Australia's a pretty cool place :D Although we do have a true retard for a prime minister and were also in debt, but not as much as you guys. Finland would be cool, or Norway, or Sweden. Basically Scandinavia is the place to be.

All government is, is retards arguing. Don't believe me? Watch one parliament session (It was better than the comedy channel). However, even though Ruddkips is pretty back, he's nothing compared to turnbull. I've heard turnbull twice say "When I'm prime minister, and at the next election I will be". I'm still hoping the NBN will be great. FttH ftw!

Most people, I think, understand that the actions of the American Govt's is not representative of the people. I've only been to the US once but I loved the people there. It seems they were lead astray by mistaken doctrine-driven politicians and the appalling TV. This is what I wrote at the time in 2007:
I really loved California - at least that little bit I saw. Not their TV though. According to American TV God is blessing America, driving round in a four by four (SUV), viewing real estate in which to invest His instant get rich quick profits.
Not any more ... I guess the American dream is real, having been there and seen a little of it, but ... in the hubris of recent years a lot of people forgot you have to work to make it come true ...

Lol, yeah, in year 7 we went to Canberra for a week and we got to sit in on some kind of parliament session. Didn't really pay that much attention but from what I remember it was...well, stupid really.

You do realize that Slick Willy's "surplus" was created by pushing some bill signing dates around, right? That move was quite possibly the greatest dupe of the 20th century.

But the federal government's budget outlook was, at least, more positive than it was after GB's tax cuts and wars, right? From every angle I look at, even though he spent more, Clinton's tax raises made the amount of money the federal government took in more than they spent. He had a budget surplus, from what I can research, give me some links that make it seem like he didn't.

I know; it's pretty bad. Sadly, I have a feeling that that is what the house and Senate sessions are going to look like within the next few years.

The economy was so good at that time, that it was possible to collect that much in taxes, but of course, everybody wants tax cuts. I don't think taxes should be cut when they don't need to be, or risen as much as they are going up now.

China and Japan own over 60% of the US national debt between them.
Not that it's worth much :dead:

Yeah lol B's right China owns a fair bit of you, and they're being nice at the moment and they're continuing the loan. One day China, Russia and North Korea will plan world domination, you watch.

It's already on the way. Last year China said they would continue to buy US debt but expected the US to "manage it's economy better" and "would be watching closely".
This year the Chinese and the Russians have already both suggested the world needs to replace the US dollar as it's reserve currency.
Next move: they will create the currency and then the Iranian Oil bourse will open and trade oil in that currency. The Iranian Oil bourse has been primed and ready to go for a year or so. Just biding their time for China and Russia to give them the green light to open for business.

I used to support obama, but recently I realized that I don't support our shiety government, any thing based on religion causing violence and spreading hatred within itself, is not something I like. We never have solutions, we only delay the inevitable. Our debt is unplayable, we are enemies with everyone mostly because of how pompous and self centered we are. It disgusts me.

If you haven't yet then watch "The Obama Deception" - full length version on youtube. It's not the man, he's just a symptom. The issue is the system.
