Ok, because i know everyone will say it, this is not a codec problem. i have tried vlc, zoom, wmp11, divx, media player classic, and every other media player on the face of the earth, as well as codec packs like cccp... and this problem has shown up over two operating systems, vista 64 bit and xp sp3 even though they worked before the upgrade to vista and the downgrade back to xp. These videos are on my external, and for some reason just refuse to work. Could it be a problem with my video drivers or some other conflict. Any ideas would be awesome because nobody seems to have any idea whats wrong

Thats very weird. So no matter what, no video plays on your computer? Strange. Is there sound at least? Are you using onboard video or a graphics card? How many displays are hooked up to your PC? Just one or multiple monitors?

The videos onthe external hard drive could have become corrupted.

What about videos from another source? It is possible that the external drive is damaged/corrupt. Try a scandisk on it.

No videos from other sources work either. The video never starts, so there's no sound issues that i know of, i'm using an 8800 gtx and a single monitor. I'll try a scandisk, hopefully that'll find something

well, scratch that i finally started getting error messages instead of it just freezing the player. Apparently, it's an I/O device error. No idea what that is but hopefully i can find a solution now.

I'd try reinstalling your graphics card driver and then mess around with the settings.

Might just be something wrong with your windows installation, but at least try the new vid card driver.

I've seen an option in an old ATI driver to mirror video playback (and ONLY video playback) to the TV output of the card. Maybe there's a similar setting...?

It sounds like the video driver to me. The IO error might be a problem with your external drive but since You Tube doesn't work either, then it's the video driver..... or your memory might be corrupt.

If it's the "Standard Video Driver" from Microsoft, it's not getting the correct driver.
