Well here I am, sat at work on another boring as hell 12 hour security shift with nothing to do other than wander outside whenever the dog starts barking at someone/thing, and I turn on my Acer Aspire One A150 to watch some movies/tv shows or SOMETHING and..... nothing....

Well almost nothing - the power light comes on, the battery charge light comes on - the fan(s) start up - but nothing else.

This post, I'm writing on my almost brand-new Acer Aspire 6930 16" HD laptop - which has a faulty bass woofer speaker - and I'm working so many hours/sleeping after nightshifts pretty much whenever the warranty line is open....

Oh, and the DVD drive on my Xbox360 finally gave up the ghost last week after a couple months of the occasional mis-read and the odd click sound.

Aaaaand the car I just bought turns out to have a few more (relatively expensive) problems than I first thought it had.

Oh did I mention I lost one of my 3 jobs a couple weeks ago....

Two of the four tuners in my media centre have recently decided to stop recording - they playback ok, but won't record....

The roof in my house has a leak - which has managed to destroy my son's bed and the carpet in the hallway (although my landlord says he'll sort that out with his insurance - fingers crossed)

My Quad core Q6700 based pc with 8GB of ram doesn't appear to be powerful enough to PLAY AN MP3 smoothly ....

ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ok - back to human now - just needed a quick vent lol.... I can fix pretty much all of this - but it's a little annoying that they keep going wrong faster than I can keep up with the repairs....

Last time I experienced lag doing simple tasks the capacitors were blown on my motherboard. The computer still ran... but hardly.

Sorry about the downpour man, it always seems to come at once.

Recapping a mobo is fun. I did that a month ago.

One word on the car issue--Carfax. If the dealer isn't willing to pull one, walk out and find a different dealer.

Often, there will be problems, and if you confront the salesperson about it, they'll just say "I didn't know," or, "I had no idea."

If they'll pull one for you, it's probably good.

If you find out what is wrong with that Acer Aspire One... can you let me know? I have one with the exact same problem.

EDIT: My AAO is now working thanks to:

http://www.qrpcw.com/2009/01/acer-aspire-one-bios-recovery.html <-This has the instructions to fix it

Although now I have a problem with windows... maybe it's time for Windows 7 xD

Excellent - worked flawlessly - thanks hugely crenn.... To be honest - because it was TOTALLY dead, I'd have been ripping it apart looking for obvious hardware faults - would never have occurred to me that it's just forgotten it's bios (not it's bios settings, the entire bios!!)

That does leave ONE question in my mind though... what the hell kind of a laptop FORGETS it's bloody bios!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

+rep to crenn

-rep to Acer - I just placed an order for 4 new laptops for a customer - they WERE going to be Acers - now they're probably going to be Fujitsu's - although I don't have any real experience with the brand.... - any thoughts?

Nothing like that - it'll still sail through any game I throw at it and has a straight 5.9 across the Windows score thing - just bugs me that it stutters when starting anything in WMP...

I had ripped mine apart (well.. took apart) to get the HDD out because I needed the data off it. It's a bloody mystery to how it gets caused. But I used windows to flash the latest BIOS and all is well again and I've favourited that site because it may come in handy later.
