I'm sitting watching this movie.....

It's funny lol - the super-wonderful laptop owned by Angelina Jolie causes the comment by the Phreak "Yo! Check this out guys, it's insanely great, it's got a 28.8bps modem!"

Remember those days guys? :p

Saying that, I DO remember upgrading from a measly 33.6 to a V.90 56 lol

Did you know there was a sequel? lol - Operation Takedown in 1999... That slipped quietly under the radar (and into the mire)

I sure do!

I have both of them in my DVD library!

But I must comment that they are not related. I am not sure where the "sequal" got the Hackers 2 added to it, but the official title is "Take Down". It is about Kevin Mitnick's adventure while alluding capture. Its not really totally true to fact, but it makes for a great movie. Hackers was a fun movie to watch but very loose on the reality of computers. Still both great fun to watch and recommended!

Awesome movie, but....sooo unrealistic in terms of the hacking they show. I gotta say though, if somebody made a network browsing tool like that mainframe, I would totally buy it. There's just something to be said for flying through towers of computers and watching the packets flow by lol :P

On a related note, this weekend at Defcon there's a group doing a presentation (http://www.defcon.org/html/defcon-17/dc-17-speakers.html#Louthan) on something that they made to actually look/work like the hacking you see in movies. I think I'm gonna try and make it over to that talk, but no promises :P

Your going to Defcon? Take some pics and write a article about it for TBCS and I will put it on the front page.
