There is a revolution in computer communications coming. A new platform from Google called "Google Wave".
Got email? Got I'M ... work on WIKI's .. collaborative projects? Google Wave implements any and all ways of communicating and collaborating in one incredibly powerful open API.
Watch the vid it is from a developers conference and is not the finished product so has flaws, however .. you'll start to see for yourself the incredible power and potential of this.
Google are doing this as quite open source and it's coming to a computer near you soon.

If your comp doesn't filter out google you might be able to watch it here:
https://wave.google.com/
In any case it is worth a watch. "Google Wave" consists of (mostly) open source code, some open API's - and Google are letting others go into direct competition with them for free as server/hosts by giving away their software.
It is already successfully integrated into twitter and blogging sites though it has not gone live yet. It will integrate into anything and you can use it to build whole community websites with.
There are hundreds of developers working now to integrate this into your favourite social networking site using sandbox accounts that let you preview and use the product. I got me a sandbox account so I am going to have a play around and report back :)

I was thinking the same thing when I saw the post date. Chatterbox must have been swamped right after you posted or something because this is the first time I've seen it.
I've only watched 15min of it but so far, damn. My only worry so far is hosted on a server which sounds like a security risk.

Wait til you've seen the lot. You'll be gobsmacked.
Worried about security? So .. get a copy of the software for free from Google and set up your own wave server. Problem solved. Anything you generate is stored on your server. And all wave servers can join any wave from any server - it's totally interconnected.

I must admit I'm not the biggest fan of google. However their recent movements towards open source development have been impressing me a lot lately. Wave seems like a great idea. Haven't watched the whole video yet, but so far I am really looking forward to trying this.

I get you on that but this development is something beyond beyond. Their open sourcing of it is real. The protocol has an open source forum for development.
The big picture is this:
1. Gooogle making a big thing about cloud computing
2. Google Chrome browser
3. Google Wave - the Meta communications protocol that facilitates everything
Currently the Sandbox accounts and Wave Implementation are supported on Safari, Firefox and Chrome ... UNSUPPORTED on ..... Microsoft Internet Explorer.
Google are getting big into the cloud and pushing the browser ... we also have GoogleOS coming .... now this, the comms protocol to beat all comms protocols.
I think Google are declaring some kind of war on Microsoft. They want to provide an OS, the tools everyone uses and be the backer of the protocol/api's that will make everything mesh in the networked arena.
However - that they are open sourcing it shows real bravery on their part and vision - as they know if they tried to do a total takeover people wouldn't suck it.
At the same time it is interoperable on all platforms so will run on Windows and be given IE compatibility ... but if most stuff you are doing is within their system through the browser .. who cares what's under the hood?

Oh my. *jaw drop*
I was interested enough to watch all of the demo and it is fantasic. I love to see developers videos and see all the great and wonderful things these guys are thinking of.
After watching that it has really opened my eyes to where google want the internet to be. I can also see great competition and services ginding to a stop because of the wave.
bring on the facebook app :P I was most inpressed by the seemless intergration of posting images and youtube vids.
I truely forgot that it was all browser based too.

Enhanced by it surely?

yeah im sure a lot will be enhanced. but cant help to think that things like IMs are going to fall short. I doubt MSN Live! would like to jump on this and try and make something of their own. Even some E-mail services.
Of course planes are not going to fall out the sky over night but I do think google are working extremely hard and quickly pushing for the clould. If proven a success services who are not engaging with it will see a blow and then a slow decline even tho it is not googles intention to do that, it would just happen because of what users can and cant use.
It is however something that I am looking forward to. I am a google fan and normally when a service of theres is published it makes my life easier
Ps. I What to see a pizza hut extention to invite friends to my house, vote on a pizzza before hand and then automaticly place the order at the time people were expected :P
