...hmmm... Well, on the one hand, that would be freakin awesome. On the other hand, I almost wanna call BS on Sony. Unless they've privately developed their own completely revolutionary (and I do mean revolutionary...like, vertical bit encoding revolutionary) technique for making flash memory, there's no way that this would be possible any time soon. I give it another 2-3 years till we'll actually see something like this on the market.

I wonder how long companies have things that their working on before they actually release them? It would be funny to learn that they've been working on this thing since like 1998 or something. lol

Makes you think about what they have right now that their working on...

I agree - bearing in mind HD manufacturers are just able to get 2TB into a 3.5" hard disk, SSD's are currently maxxed out at 250GB in a 2.5" form factor, and 64GB is about as big as current flash devices get - there's some way to go to get that much storage into that small a space....

Well, OCZ is gonna be releasing a 1TB 3.5" SSD soon, and there are 512GB 2.5" SSDs readily available, and I remember seeing a 1TB 2.5" SSD by an enterprise provider a few months back (it was around $3-5k, iirc, but still), and flash-drives are available up to at least 128GB, but, yeah, definitely a long ways from there to this.

Nice, I didn't know about that one. Looks pretty bulky though. I wonder how much of that is casing and how much is actually the device.

Anyone wanna buy one for dissection? :D

Sorry for breathing life back into this old thread, but 2TB in a card seemed too good to be true anytime soon:

The 2TB Memory Stick Duo picture used in this story is a photoshop by yours truly...

Update: There seems to be some confusion amongst the Internet about this story. A 2 TB maximum capacity doesn’t mean that you will see a 2 TB Memory Stick XC next year. That is probably years away – however, it does open the door for 64GB, 128GB, etc; a natural progression to the 2 TB limit is to be expected.

Sorry for poking holes in your hopes and dreams.
