Start, Run. Type in: Command
Then Type: *sfc /scannow* into the
MSDos prompt see if that fixes the problem.

Or. .
Insert Microsoft Windows Vista disc into the drive, and repair the installation.
You can also select the system restore option at the beginning of the installation of vista.

Review the running processes by memory usage, end the unused processes,
and remove them from your system startup with spybot or similar.

Why have I never heard of this command?

It says it found corrupted files but was unable to fix some of them. I can't make any sense of the log it spit out.

I'll try repairing windows or just say screw it and reformat. +rep for the info, both of you.

For future reference. I would suggest that you create a restore (http://netsecurity.about.com/od/secureyourwindowspc/ss/vistabackup.htm) point, and backup.
You can schedule an automated backup (http://netsecurity.about.com/od/secureyourwindowspc/ss/vistabackup_6.htm) of the drive settings, and contents.

You should use chkdsk /f /r, that will fix those corrupt files. SFC only scans for problems, it doesn't fix them.

90% of the computers today have too many things starting at startup. Every company wants to add Cra#*$ to the startup menu. It may also be a program that is no longer on your computer that is trying to start.

Check All Programs then Startup and see how many things are listed. You can remove probably all of them. Just right click and drag either to the desktop or to the Start menu but outside of the StartUp folder.

If you want an Excellent Anti-Spyware program, try SuperAntiSpyware.com. It is the BEST by far. It catches everything. It has been working 100% since the day I found it about 3 years ago. It's blows Spybot and AdAware away by miles. FYI:.... Don't ever use "Stop Sign". It is spyware and is 100% UN-removable. They advertise that they are antispyware-antivirus but they are not. They are a big problem.
