This thing is weird. It's got onboard portable software, encryption, and malware defenses

Someone posted this about a year or so ago .. Airbozo I think it may have been or Rick (SgtM)

Can't find the thread but they are pretty handy for people on the go.

They fry themselves after so many incorrect guesses.

10 consecutive to be exact. They also fry if you try and open them. They're nice keys. Durable, and actually protect your data well.

I would be interested in something like this.. the business what I want to start has a idea of this.

the main reason for it is so I could mail information to places and know if it got lost or landed in the wrong hands the information is still safe.

But those stick are way to expensive for a one off trip

If you can't justify the cost of an Ironkey, I don't think there are any other thumbdrives as secure as these. Your only other option would be encryption using a nice big RSA key.

I did once, just for the hell of it. AES-Blowfish dual-encryption with three hashes.

Or just carry around a Zip disk. Who's got the ability to read those?:whistler:

Hahaha, you make a very good point. Reminds me of a time back in high school when I did my final project entirely on a 5.25" floppy for exactly that reason :D

Oddly enough .. quite a few people .. I have both internal and external Zip drives .. and whenever I get a spare they sell on Ebay quickly at a good price.

Is this because the people you are communicating with are not on the internet?

If not it might be better, cheaper and quicker to send them as encrypted zipped files by email using utilities based on PGP and/or AES encryption

Hi CB,

The idea of it in the business would be the customer selects the backed up files they want in their possession. The service would then load in a USB stick, put the selected files onto the stick, encrypt with a users password and post.

The customer would then have a psychical backup of the files they wanted what could not be erased. The likes of that usb device is perfect as it has the whole self destruct.

Of course this sounds easier in my head then in reality, a good service angle none the least

So you can offer options. ... encrypted sent by email ... they put it on the USB key .. encrypted posted on a standard USB key - which are a few quid each - or if someone wants the whole hog they pay a whole lot more :) flexibility with your business model is always a good idea. Better than guessing what your users might want is giving them options and finding out what they want.

BTW if you want to chat through idea's Fran has my number n yr welcome to call.
