My iPod Touch won't turn on, won't boot, can't get into DFU mode, can't do ANYTHING AT ALL WHAT-SO-EVER. I've spent the past couple hours trying to figure it out to no prevail. Now its saying its not recognized usb malfunction BS so I can't even force it into DFU mode because XP doesn't even know what the stupid thing is.

My day gets better. My pride and joy, my most expensive position, my 22" Asus PG221H monitor, now has a ****ing crack in it because apparently it can't take a literal 3 inch fall onto a keyboard which was on A CUSHY SPRINGY BED. Seriously, wtf?? That's so ridiculous that I don't even know what else to say about it.

I think I'm just going to go bang my head against a wall for a good couple hours.

iPod screen is black, won't display anything, can't enter any kind of mode, NOTHING. When I connect it to my laptop, it just says usb device not recognized. Under device manager it shows up and unknown device. I tried updating drivers. I uninstalled all apple stuff, then reinstalled it, then tried updating drivers again. Nothing. I uninstalled every USB driver and restarted the computer, the computer reinstalled all the ports but in the end that didn't do anything either.

What. The. Hell. Is. Going. On??

More info: This all happened because I jailbroke my touch, installed a boot logo program, didn't realize it only worked with redsn0w whereas I'm using quickfreedom, turned off the ipod to see if it would work anyways, then it wouldn't turn back on and so here we are.

The chances of me being able to afford another touch again anytime soon is zilch and I depend on this thing day in and day out. I NEED this thing to get back up and working! But I just don't know what to do at this point.

Can you not do the hard reset like you can with most Ipods?

The combo is the middle button and the play/pause button together for 10 seconds. the Ipod should start back up and take a while longer then it normally would to start.

I know this hard reset is a different combo on different models so it is best to check the correct model manual or visit the apple website

Doubtful, the touch only has 1 button.

Sounds to me like you bricked it. There might be a way to get it into "service" mode, but I'm not familiar with apple products. I'm speaking from my PSP experience.

Try this:
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808

Basically, make sure it's powered off. Plug the USB cable into your computer, but not the ipod. Hold the home button down and turn it on. Keep holding the button down till it says to connect to itunes. Then connect the USB cable.

Then restore it.

When you jail break an Itouch this is a risk you take. It is most likely bricked. There might be a way to get it back up but I can not point you to anything because I use my touch just for music, web and photos. Heck none of my apps have worked in the last 4 months but I have not cared enough to reset it.

I've tried all the button combo's, and some of them make the "device has malfunctioned" message reappear so I think its resetting when I do that. But the first and foremost problem is that its giving me that message in Win XP. If my computer doesn't recognize the device then I can't do anything. If I can get it to recognize, then I can do a force DFU through a program. I've had this problem before, but all I had to do was unplug my webcam. This time around though NOTHING other than my iPod is plugged in...

When it rains, it pours. Now I know why that saying exists, because its about as true as apple pie. I think I'm going to call Asus and ask how much a screen replacement would cost. Hopefully not too much as I can buy a new 22" for $200 or less. At least I can put all my windows on the 60% left side of my screen so its still usable. But 40% of the right side is pretty much unusable. I can't believe this thing cracked like that. Must of been the weight of the monitor itself or something.

lol god, I had it working perfectly but nooooo I just had to have a cool boot screen. Too bad I didn't see the only works under redsn0w warning. ><

Damn dude, I feel for you mostly because I could totally see myself doing the same exact thing for the same exact reason... the because you can factor. I scared myself rooting my G1 once for multi-touch which I never use... it's just because you can.

I hope you find a fix man.

EDIT: I've read a few places "POWER + HOME THEN ONLY THE HOME"

I'm not sure what that means but it may make a difference.

I also read that you may already be in DFU mode.

theres your problem right there, k plug your ipod in to the usb wait for your comp to say its not reconized then hold home+sleep for about ten seconds(the not reconized pop up will leave and make a disconnected usb device sound) then left go of tthe sleep button and hold home untill the comp beeps telling you a usb device has connected itunes will pop up and tell you it needs to be restored, you restore it and there you go

In a forum I found.

Holding down buttons and that kind of stuff won't work until I fix the error message. I tried it anyways btw, but still no luck. I have to get my computer to recognize that its an ipod before anything else. If I can do that then I can fix it.

Edit: Good lord. I tried looking for mainboards on ebay since I'm pretty sure if I replace that then all I have to do is reinstall the firmware. Seems like it would fix everything. Well, scratch that. The freaking mainboards cost almost as much as a brand new Touch! Their like $180 where I could find them. I'd rather just spend $40 more and get a brand new one. Or just wait until September when the new ones launch. So lame.

Holy freaking cow I got my iPod to finally work! BUT THE GLASS IS BROKEN. :banghead:

Now I just need $50 for a new screen. Better than needing $200 at least!

I guess I'll just have to be happy with turning the screen on and off and lowering and raising the volume for now. LOL

Hey does anyone know what the difference between these two are?

http://www.idemigods.com/iPod_Touch_2nd_Gen_Digitizer_Screen_Front_Panel_p/2g_dgtzrtch.htm

http://www.idemigods.com/iPod_Touch_2nd_Gen_Front_Bezel_Digitizer_Mid_Frame _p/2g_frntbzltch.htm

I cannot for the life of me figure out what that 2nd one is?
