I've been trying to build a quad core for some time now and am constantly having problems with it. Everything from corrupted windows installs to BSoD's. I think I'll just buy a retail Quad system and throw in a nice graphics card

Sounds like bad ram to me man.

Yea, doesn't sound like the actual quad core is the problem. RAM > Mobo > HDD, the usual.

Bios is updated to support the CPU you are using? Any memory limitation issues?

How much ram? I'd go 2gb or less for the windows install, then add the rest after. Have you tested the hardware with something like PC Check?

Wait!! Aren't you a Tech? Don't give up. Figure it out.

I blame RAM. I'm sure you know about Memtest (http://www.memtest.org/); download it or run it off an Ubuntu disc and see what you get.

Barring that, could be the board (incompatible BIOS as Luke said, physical or static damage), hard drive, overheating, unstable PSU... I'd just easter-egg it as best you can until I found the weak link. It's worth the trouble, man.

I ordered another 8GB (4x 2GB) to see if that does it. My board supports up to 16GB. I don't have to manually set the timings do I?

The timings that are pre-configured in the settings should work.

Dammit!! You were right. New RAM has been installed and it's been flawless!

Or you could just buy a Mac, you'd never have that problem.

You're right. Mac's are built by Jesus.

I KNEW there was a reason why mac users tend to act "holier than thou"! Because they are!

Surely you arent suggesting that Steve Jobs = Jesus...

If so, then how does this work?
