"Elecom Japan is launching two nanoSSDs in a few weeks that can plug into a SATA motherboard slot."

capacity isnt huge, but this would be excellent for using in a minipc.

I love you. ...uh... I mean...

But no really, that would be pretty freaking awesome if you can! These things are pretty cool. I just hope they're all what they're cracked up to be. Now they just need L shape adapters or something so if some people want, they can lay them down flat. Although, it doesn't look like height would be too much of an issue.

+rep for a very cool find farlo!

They should make a dual or multiple slot design. Although, I wonder if you could just buy a couple and put them in raid?

Looks like they are blocking the ports around it a bit, wonder if you could still plug something in those.

Still, this is awesome!

I didn't catch that. lmao

EDIT: Looks like it needs a secondary power source? WTF? Why?

Sata ports don't provide power.

How the heck do you power these things then? Please don't tell me watch batteries....

Apparently a 2 prong adapter that you plug into your molex connector. Kinda llke a 3-pin fan adapter.

Which means it runs at 5v probably. I'm sure this could easily be modded to run off of an on board USB ports 5v pin.

Hmm, well alright, I guess I can roll with that. lol

Now they just need to work on getting faster models. Aren't these like average SATA 3 speeds?

Someone, get me one of these for my submersion PC. Those RAIDed flash drives won't cut it.

Mmm, shiny. Here's hoping they don't rape us on the price (oh wait, they'll be import only for who knows how long.....crap!). If they're not ridiculously priced, I might pick up a couple of those for my HTPC and fileserver.

why not just use a really short sata cable? lol

this is saweet! I want one now. could do a sweet car PC with one of those bad boys and an eSata port to plug in an external hdd that you could mod like a 8 track deck. lol

What is the life expectancy for these things?

Well that was a fail on my part. I thought they acted almost like a super USB which made me assume it could power somewhat of a thumb drive. Good to know.

damn these things are absurdly expensive, $ 193.32 for the 8gb, an extra 70.20 for the 16gb.

Ya, the transfer speeds don't make up for the price/low capacity either so I'd go with a 2.5" or 1.8" drive any day if size was an issue.

Transfer speeds
Size
Heat Generation
Noise
Cool Factor

I'd say that they are worth the price, as long as the lifespan is good. If this was my build, I'd be using either a NAS or an external drive for storage anyways.

What's the transfer speeds of these compared to normal drives?

Just think how small laptops could get with little drives like these! I wonder if we'll ever see laptops that are thinner than the Air? lol like holding a razor!

Really, looking at the transfer speeds, they're not that great (75MB/s read, 30MB/s write), so personally, I don't see the cost as being justified. I can get another 60GB OCZ Vertex for the same cost (yes, I know, apples and peanuts, but whatever).
