I have Charter internet 5Mbps. My 2 main rigs were connected directly through a Linksys Wireless-G router (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16833124190) and a D-Link Cable Modem (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16825112104). I have a pretty crappy connection and was never sure what the problem was. For instance, I downloaded Avira Anti-Virus (32MB) with the D-Link and it took over two minutes. I bought the Motorola Surfboard (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16825122001) and made the switch.

Now it takes 42 seconds to download Avira!

I also have a Motorola modem, but I'm not sure which one. My internet connection is solid as can be, and I get a reliable 5mbps. I used to have a 10mbps connection, but I just can't justify the cost these days.

Now that it's faster, I think that I'll go down to 3Mbps and save money

I'm currently at 3mbps and I love it. Its the perfect performance to price ratio in my opinion. I also can't justify paying more for a faster connection and one that I really don't benefit too strongly from. The 3mbps handles pretty much everything I do just fine.
