the gray things along the top inside are exhaust fans
the shield in front of the cards is going to mount 2 80mm fans blowing across the cards if anything else is unclear let me know and ill try to clarify also any suggestions would be great

ok small update got all the panels ordered and the last (hopefully barring any mistakes) of the aluminum L channel gonna get it all hacked up and down to correct size then its off to my grandfathers to use the drill press then i can start assembly of the frame

Are you using 80mm fans for a reason? - the rest of the world seems to be running away from them and to 120mm or larger fans - a single 120 will give you more airflow, on average, than 2 80mm ones, uses less power, and is almost guaranteed to be a LOT quieter too....

raistnox
09-01-2009, 09:52 AM
also heres the design im thinkin of usin for the window panelhttp://c2.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images02/13/l_fd466a0224e8422b9240e84b2cfd4559.jpgthe slots will match up with the fans for the add on cards

please excuse my horrid skills with cad programs

raistnox
09-01-2009, 09:55 AM
the 80 mm fans are only cause ive got 6 white ones layin around and im tryin to save some money for upgrading the system im gonna put in

...blue or silver screw heads??? i cant decide they both look good with the white background

Mark_Hardware
09-04-2009, 10:13 PM
I'd go with blue, to match. Though it seems they'd get scratched putting them in....

raistnox
09-05-2009, 01:06 AM
im thinkin blue as well and to prevent scratching im just not gonna tighten them down that hard and take them off without a hex key

raistnox
09-05-2009, 09:48 AM
so ive decided on a name for this build the gealic name Banquo which means white hound

raistnox
09-06-2009, 01:08 AM
so while i wait for the frame to dry ive decided to start on the mouse that will go with the system i started out with my old logitech mx 518 optical mouse
http://c2.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images02/16/l_a523a50620b04b599d924b9ee459bc65.gif
(store image since i forgot to take a pic before starting) took it completely apart right down to the badge on the back side and applied some bondo in the hole where the badge was. lightly roughed up the entire surface with 100 grit sand paper then smoothed out the more serious scratches with a green scratch pad and 600 grit then applied a couple of coats of the paint and heres how she looks after the first 2 coats

http://c3.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images02/11/l_1011b9d11ec5418483933cfd871a3152.jpg
http://c2.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images02/23/l_d9f16d462ffa454ca5a1af8ec1ed6d31.jpg
http://c4.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images02/30/l_93d2780578e64ef49f5244bcc10a366b.jpg
and after the paint is completely hardened theyll get a good wet sanding then 4 coats of clear some more wet sanding then rubbing compound polishing compound then turtle wax and she'll shine like a freshly painted hot ro...ehh gaming mouse

raistnox

aint she a beauty i kinda want to paint the keys as well but theyre laser etched and light up so unless i mask every single letter (perfectly) it kind of defeats the purpose

by the way once its fully back together it'll be much brighter than it is now all i did was lay the face over the base to get the light to show thru to see the effect

DonT-FeaR

looking sweet.

raistnox
09-06-2009, 06:15 AM
ok for anyone who wants to do any kind of painting i highly recomend rust-oleum specialty lacquer you can get it at walmart for like 4 dollars a can and it dries fast and sand glass smooth very easily the mouse im workin on i used this stuff and in one night the white parts are done where the blue im still waitin to put the clear on http://c2.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images02/21/l_c7bcb881854740db8dbbe977ea0bc1a5.jpg

raistnox
09-06-2009, 08:55 AM
well i ran into a hiccup with the blue part of the mouse went to apply another coat of the paint and i guess i did it to soon or not soon enough something but it wrinkled on me so i got to sand down 4 spots most of them in complex curves of all places but im not discouraged whats modding without a few screw ups eh

ok for any and all who might be under the impression that this thread has died off it hasnt i just havnt had any time to work on the case my great aunt recently died my fathers heart is failing him and my mother just had knee surgery so yeah my nerves are shot but on a good note my sister in law is pregnant so im gonna be an uncle...again seeing as this is their 5th kid...but i hope to get the frame redone here soon, soon as i get back out to my grand fathers for some help getting it square

Waynio
09-25-2009, 02:41 AM
I'm never any good with what to say when there has been a loss, so sorry to hear that mate, utterly understandable pause.
5th kid wow, thats a lot of work :).

Uggh can be a pain getting a frame nice and square, surprisingly difficult I know, I ended up buying 4 extra squares for my last case to get it all right.

I've just decided I'm gonna quit smoking well before they quit me, sick of the yellowing fingers, the stink, the ash getting all over and not being able to run half a mile without feeling close to death:redface:, stupid life shortening habit, october 1st I'm gonna attempt it, cold turkey or nicotene product, think I'll cold turkey, not gonna be easy, I believe the 1st 2 weeks is the worst of the physical withdrawels the rest is all phychological, meh its not like not having a smoke is going to kill me :) thats the right mind set.

sorry to hear that raist,
and good luck wanyio. It'll be worth it in the end

09-25-2009, 10:20 PM
Wanyio, good luck. I've been trying to quit for awhile. its tough. Chantix helped me for about 3 weeks. but you can't rely on it solely. Make sure your friends will support you as well. I wish you luck.

ok i think its time i get back to work on this thing however on a small scale for now seeing as how funds are low but before i proceed does anyone know if changing the led in an optical mouse effects performance like say changing from standard red to blue seeing as how blue reflects alot more and whatnot

raistnox,

I did the same thing you're doing to your mx518 that I did to my mx518. I replaced the led with a bright blue one nearly 2 years ago and I haven't seen any loss of performance. Here's the link to my mouse changes...
