I want a laptop. I want to spend no more than $1000. It has to be an Athlon. I will not buy a Compaq, Gateway, Dell, Emachine, HP, or any other **** company. I was thinking of an Alienware. What should I get?

I have an Alienware Area 51 7700M laptop. I like it but their tech support is not very good.I have been having overheat problems so i sent it to get it repared. They took over a month to get it back to me and at first told me they never got it.
The laptop is very fast and easy to upgrade but I wouldnt depend on their trch support.

alien ware is just rebranded clevo machines. Get a pro-star it is a rebranded clevo machine and is very cheap, but i doubt under 1000.
edit: not prostar(they are tho still rebranded clevos) get a sager

If you're looking for affordability, don't look to Alienware. They have a huge markup on their machines.
Toshiba has been making some pretty good laptops from the ones I've seen, but I really haven't followed the laptop market at all.

TGS,
My wife loves her Gateway.....Ducking from all the flaming poo coming my way.
I bought it for me about 3yrs ago, gamed on it for about 2yrs. Had one problem the usb port stopped working, bad solder job took them 10 days to fix it and ship it back, not bad for free warranty work.
HDD died about 3 months after the warranty ran out (My wife leaves it on 24/7...told her she would kill it!), and I think is was a crappy WD hard disk (never had one that didn't die at least twice!) so we put in a Seagate (5yr warranty!)
I'm not sure how there quality is now but that one was top notch (model 600yr)
Also had a toshiba for work, not a bad little laptop, but it also had hdd trouble, but they were sticking Death Stars in them @ the time too.:D

If you're looking for a gaming rig and can stomach a chain-brand laptop, Dell does make some decent ones - the XPS series are actually pretty good, once you remove the bloatware that comes with any chain-brand comp. Their XPS M140 is on sale now for $849 stock, and comes with 128mb integrated video memory and a 2.13GHz processor. Not too shabby, for the price and the size you're getting.
But then again, it's a Dell.

Bump!
I am also now looking for a $1000 laptop - I want something for gaming though, my budget is $1200 but I have no idea about the laptop market so if anyone could suggest some laptops which would be good for gaming? I mostly want to play counterstrike source and other online fps games.
Thanks guys!

Suggestion: Don't bust HP out of the laptop market. I bought an HP laptop 2 and a half years ago for £750, which has a built in Radeon Chipset, an Athlon +2400 processor, etc. It still works really well, and i've never had a trouble with it. In fact, my girlfriend is currently sitting using it and telling me how she wants to call our children after the teenage mutant hero turtles.
Save me. Please.

Speaking of HP... on their website I put together a Laptop dv5000z series... here are the specs.
XP Home SP2
AMD Sempron 3300+ (2.0 GHz)
Radeon XPRESS 200M 128MB
15.4 WXGA BrightView Widescreen
512 MB DDR SDRAM
80 GB 4200 RPM Hard drive

I think that this looks pretty sweet, in fact I may get this or something similar this summer.
