I need something to monitor temps. Whats out there?

I use realtemp. I'd link it, but I downloaded it from, ahem, another site....
Anyway I've always liked it. Speedfan gave me weird temps.

Speed fan is pretty much the one - there are loads of apps out there which require speedfan to run - it'a ALMOST a standard - do you have a specific reason for not using it or are you just doin some research before choosing one?

Well I have been getting some weird temps from speedfan. It shows my cpu running at 54c where it has ran at 49c for the last year. It also reports my case ambient at 45c where my actual temp probe says ambient is around 40c. Just wondering if there was anything better out there is all. I have been using speedfan for 4 years now and never thought to look at what else is out there.

Yeah I was getting weird temps too. They were on average 10C higher than the probes and realtemp. I checked, the tj max was set right, so idk...

There is Core Temp (http://www.alcpu.com/CoreTemp/), which only reports on the CPU temperatures (for Core architecture and newer intel chips, plus everything AMD since the Athlon64).

I use AOD for spot checking, but for CPU temps I have a readout on the board-my POST reader converts to temps after POST.

You can configure speedfan to display a higher or lower temp. Looks like you need to adjust the temp -5°.

Well I would like to confirm the temps are wrong first. I downloaded the program mark mentioned. I will report back later with the results.

If you really want to get it right, get a k-type thermocouple thermometer. My multimeter will accept one, so I'm looking for one cheap ATM, and that's as accurate as you can get in or out of a lab.

Rather onld thread -- but the best program -- imho -- for that purpost is missing: Argus Monitor.

It monitors CPU, GPU and HDD temperature, HDD health (SMART attributes) and speed of the system fans. And it shows the status of the Intel Turbo Boost state (and CPU frequency). The only thing it does not show are the voltages (but honestly, who needs to know them).

It offers a history of the values (if you want to find the max GPU temp after a two hour gaming session) and can issue warnings if one of the temperatures exceeds a limit (warnings can be by message box, mail, sound, execution of a program).

TBCS Administration Edit: I removed the link to this program because of the single post count and it linking to a paid program. If you are not affiliated with Argus then please send Oneslowz28 a PM. If you are with Argus and would like to promote your product here at TBCS please let OvRiDe or Oneslowz28 know via PM and we can work something out.

suprised no body else has mentioned this one

http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/hwmonitor.html

It's not pretty or extravagant, but the temperatures are the most accurate i've used from any temp monitor program that i tried.

Still use it to this day.

LMAO I forgot all about this. The conclusion I came to was that one of the internal temp sensors in my old processor was bad. There was about a 19c difference in core 1 and core 2.

I now use OCCT, CPUZ, EVGA PREcision, and several other monitoring programs. I am going to dl the one pictured above as it does graphs.

And to answer the question about voltages. Anyone overclocking needs to see those voltages!

EDIT: I will not be using the above mentioned Argus Monitor. It cost $20 and I have a slight suspision that the post is nothing more than spam. I will leave it there for member reference but am removing the link.

ya......voltages....are....pretty important when overclocking

but who needs to know those right?
