Sad to see them go, but they are having a going out of business sale.

www.xoxide.com

Not everything is a great deal right now, as this is quite early on, but I did pick up some Scythe Slipstream 1600rpm 120's for 1.20$ a pop.

Look around. There are some pretty good deals and free shipping above 100$.

Wow, I seriously did not see this coming. Stupid economy! Stop doing that! :(

Really gonna miss them; they had a bunch of really off the wall stuff and pretty good prices too.

BTW, has anyone used these (http://www.xoxide.com/koolance-hx-360.html)?
I'm thinking of picking up a couple for my server since they're so cheap.

I've tested a couple in stores; they're...interesting...but that's about it; I wouldn't want to use one for any extended period of time.

I just ordered $98 worth of stuff with $11 shipping. I originally was trying to order $111 worth of stuff, but I didn't realize a few things got removed from the order before I resent the order. Now I wont get my deluxe screw set :(

Seriously sad to see them go though.

Hehe, the slipstreams I ordered are now back up to 6.20$ each hehe.

I looked at that CoolIt cooler, but it was like 50 last night when I was looking. I would have grabbed it at 27$.

Damn, this is costing me a fortune!!!!

I bought a 700W PSU yesterday, today they have the 1000W version $50 less than yesterday so I got that too.

Ordered a case yesterday, today they have free shipping on cases!

I'm just going to have to not go there again. Really. Seriously. I mean it this time.

Course I'm only moaning cos I'm on the wrong side of the pond - I've done the same in the past - still have stocks of cathodes and fan grilles bought years ago - among other piles of stuff lol

Yup, there'll be a lot of that going around. On Friday (at least that's when I noticed it), they started actually pulling down the pages for products that they're out of.

BTW, where is their history posted? Someone mentioned it, but I can't find it on the page. Is it in their forum somewhere?

NightrainSrt4

Here you go. (http://www.keystoneedge.com/features/xoxide0528.aspx?referrerID=8ddbebda-b80c-4d48-a22f-9ce831ee3853)

It's an article about how they started the business and what they went through, and the awards they've won.

They've got a lot of websites now and a lot of businesses and have stated if one starts to not do so well they will pull it and move on to a new niche. They aren't gone, they just are putting their interests elsewhere; the guys who made xoxide I mean.

x88x
09-13-2009, 10:18 PM
Wow, that's a really amazing story....and a really odd variety of products. O_o I must have discovered them really early on then, if they started when they were 17, and they're 22 now (well in May they were, anyways); I think the first time I found the site was in early 2004, so given that timeline, it couldn't have been up for very long. Interesting. After reading that, it's kinda even more of a shame that they're pulling out of this market. It's good to know they're not really going out of business though.

I just ordered enough Cffl tubes to light vegas. Aha! I went to place an order for about a dozen (a few each of several different types) of those. Turns out they all sold out between the time I loaded the sale page and placed my order (~10 minutes). I think the worlds most luminous mod should be in store to justify the theft of my ccfls right out of my shopping cart! :)

And after reading their story: I'm amazed at how successful they are at their age. I'm also amazed they shut down a $30 million dollar a year company. You know you're successful when you see 30 million as a failure and a waste of time. I'm also surprised they shut it down without selling it. I'm sure a bunch of large PC manufacturers would have considered it since they've been buying up all the boutique and custom-PC companies in the last few years.

They are auctioning it off. Just not with any of their warehouse space or inventory.

mDust

Just not with any of their warehouse space or inventory. So they're basically just selling the Xoxide.com name then. I would imagine it would have been much easier and more profitable to sell the company and simply change ownership while maintaining business as usual.

d_stilgar
09-15-2009, 02:11 AM
I think the problem with business as usual would be that the guys who started Xoxide run other companies out of the same warehouse. I think it's just less hassle to sell off the goods in the warehouse then ship them all to whoever buys the domain (esp considering that they may just want the domain and not the business).

slaveofconvention
09-15-2009, 04:39 AM

It's one thing to be raking in $30m in sales - but if you aren't making an appreciable profit after all of your costs, it might as well be $30k or just $30. It isn't unusual for a company to become less profitable as it gets larger - while economies of scale suggest that it should become more profitable, other costs increase and some may increase at a substantially higher rate. I've never personally run a $30m dollar business (unfortunately) so I may be wrong but sales are a lot less important than profit when it comes to running a business, especially a retail one.

OOPS ... seems the "green shoots" of economic recovery missed them out :(

EDIT:
Ah ... here's the clue to what is really going on:

Today Xoxide operates eight different online stores, and offers everything from beauty products (Misikko.com) to bird supplies (BirdGuys.com) to auto parts (CorvetteGuys.com and AmericanTrucks.com). The automobile industry, in fact, will very likely play a leading role in Xoxide's future growth, especially considering that the company estimates 80 to 85 percent of its current revenue to be a result of sales placed on AmericanMuscle.com, a site that only sells parts for Ford Mustangs

AmericanMuscle.com is not having a closing down sale as far as I can see ... I think the guys are just pulling out of computer parts.

Low volume high margin as opposed to high volume low margin makes sense to me.... Same money, less work :p

Low volume high margin as opposed to high volume low margin makes sense to me.... Same money, less work :p The smaller they make their market the higher risk they are taking if the market changes. Losing 10,000 out of 100,000 sales is better than losing 20 out of 30. A company can go under pretty fast if they have to rely on high prices to make a profit.

It's one thing to be raking in $30m in sales - but if you aren't making an appreciable profit after all of your costs, it might as well be $30k or just $30...I'm sure they were making bank.
I just saw http://www.xoxide.com/letter-from-owners.html?location=rotban. So I guess someone made an offer for the company and they took it to pad their pockets with a thick layer of benjamins. They are young and freakin rich! I'm jealous. Who wants to start sonofxoxide.com with me? :D

They're selling to the highest bidder.

NightrainSrt4
09-16-2009, 01:03 PM
Unless the bidding really skyrockets between today and tomorrow they aren't really "lining their pockets". It is only at 10k$ right now for the business, but that is essentially just the website at this point. Though we all know how fast things can skyrocket in the last day/hours.

They made quite a lot from xoxide, but their other projects are just more profitable right now. As much as I love pc's and modding, I would probably move on to, and focus on, whatever niche was making bank too.

Nice haul. I'm still pretty frustrated about missing the 21$ AXP-140's, and the Noctua heatsinks for 30$, especially as I was about to buy them but had to go so I was like "Oh, I'll get them later".

But making out with 12 Slipstreams worth like what 10$ a piece for a 1$ a piece was still pretty killer. They arrived at my families house, I just haven't had a chance to get them yet.

Hello All,
As you're probably aware, Xoxide.com was put up for sale recently. We are thrilled to announce that our company was the winning bidder in the transaction and will be assuming an ongoing management role in the next few days. We would like to assure everyone that you will receive the same great service and product selection you have come to expect from Xoxide and hopefully some added benefits as well.

We will keep this brief, as we're scrambling to restock the shelves and complete the transfer as we speak. Our company has over 10 years of experience in the PC and video gaming accessory industry, both on the manufacturing and distribution side. We ship products around the world to hundreds of thousands of customers, super fast. Xoxide will continue to be an independent entity, as will the forums. Our goal is to minimize any disruption in service and expect that business will continue to operate as usual.

We're happy to hear all of your feedback and suggestions for any potential improvements to the site. We will try to respond to as many of them as we can, but even if we can't respond individually, we are reading everything and strive to provide you with the best online shopping experience possible for all of your hardware and modding needs. Thank you in advance for all of your support and we look forward to serving you. More details to follow soon...
