Animated gifs? Help

Anyone know how to make animated gifs? I used to use gifworks but they always turn out full of artifacts and look like crap. I know there is a way to make them in image ready. Who wants to help?

Please don't make gifs that make me want to stab myself in the face.

The ones with stick figures doing matrix kung-fu (Xiao Xiao) are OK, after that they fall off fast.

I am actually testing this out for an animation of some fans that flash leds to make a pattern on the blades. Its part of a review I am working on. Check our forum.
