Well, I am having issues making my first purchase with them. Apparently you have to go through some huge long process with their customer support, which can only be access via ticket/email.
Pretty retarded. Never had issues like this with any other download service. I'd expect more from a company in business for 5 years, lmfao.
Edit: Okay, so I got an email back. Apparently for new accounts they make you go through this and have to have a rep unlock the account so you can order. Security reasons she said. Ehh, worked, and can now download the games. Will go through that tomorrow, lmfao.

It would bug me having accounts with more than one download services. Steam has been good to me so I'll stick with it. I made the mistake of buying NFS:Carbon using EA Link and it was annoying having another service just for one game.

afaik it's not another service like steam, not really anyway. It isn't a program that runs like steam that launches your games. It's more like GoG than steam, except D2D includes whatever DRM the dev includes with the game, whereas GoG strips DRM out.
From what I understand, as I haven't downloaded my first game yet, you just download it, save it somewhere if you want to back it up without having to redownload, and install it like you would any other digital copy of a game.

So I downloaded Bioshock. The download manager put the zip file where I told it to. I then unzipped manually via windows. Copied the folder to my server so I don't have to redownload it whenever. Ran the setup.exe just the same as if a disk was in the drive. It did its thing, then I ran the exe. Put in my activation code and the game started right up.
Nothing special involved, really, other than the download manager, which was simple. Everything else was like installing from a disk, just without the disk. No launcher software like steam to run or anything like that. Least not with this game.

Oblivion on PC is nothing without mods, and Oblivion purchased via Direct2Drive won't work with some of them. Additionally, last I knew, Bethesda wouldn't directly support that version.
As far as that goes, then, you made the right decision by buying 'em on disc.

Damn, I think I may have to buy a few then.
EDIT: I didn't have any drama registering/purchasing. I signed up... checked out with paypal... *downloading* Hell, I didn't even have to confirm my e-mail address.

Hmmm, well glad that worked out for you. Apparently I could have avoided the drama I went through if I just used my old IGN/Fileplanet login. Didn't even realize it. Oh well.
Both Riddick and Bioshock stored on server and installed. Win7 didn't want to install Tages, lol, but I did it manually to play the game. If it gives me issues down the road I will just install one of things that must not be mentioned that will give your mother back problems if you step on them. But I don't see it being an issue or needed atm.
