Why were you changing cards? why not just leave the 9800 in all the time? Im a bit lost with your logic mate. :/

As am I. And it doesn't just have to be your graphic card. I've recently fix a computer whose HDD 'fried' and gave out smoke..... my room still smells of it.

Well, first thing first. What component fried? The Graphics card or the Mother board? Or... did you zap your PSU? Once you know what youve cooked, youll know what to replace.

so if the 9200 works it was the card thats broken. If the sound you heard, was it a pop or more of a zap? If its a pop you probably blew the power supply, cause a pop and a smell are usually associated with the powersupply.

I agree, your first job would be to check the PSU. crenn, i've never heard of a HDD doing that before...what do you think caused that?

well it was the 9800 that fried, it has now been sent off to get fixed or whatever, luckily it was still under warranty. so for the moment im stuck with my 9200 & a crappy nvidia card that they loaned me
