Thats right! We are having a contest where you actually have to mod something to win. All you have to do is mod a cheap usb thumb drive around a Spooky / Halloween theme. The prize will be a Cooler Master Hyper TX3 Universal CPU cooler (http://coolermaster-usa.com/product.php?product_id=2922)

Rules for the contest

Must actually mod a USB thumb drive.
Must base the mod around a Spooky / Halloween theme.
Drive must still work after mod is finished.
No conceptual / design entries accepted.
Final entries must be submitted by Sunday October 25th
Winner announced on Halloween night.
All are allowed to enter. (shipping to countries other than the USA may be delayed by a week or two)
One entry per contestant.

Contest begins now.

Judging will be done by the TBCS Staff.

1-10 points for Creativity
1-10 points for Originality
1-10 points for Functionality
1-10 points for Following the theme
1-10 points for Quality
Admin will supply a 1-10 point vote on the overall mod

We will add up the total score from each judge and average them to get the total score. Closest to 60 points will win.

Please do not post your entries on the forum until after the contest has ended. This will keep your entry a secret and will not let your competitors see your design or idea. Please email your entry to contest@thebestcasescenario.com.

Final entries must be submitted by Sunday October 25th. Judging will take place over a 5 day period and winner will be announced on Halloween night.

Good luck

knightc, if there is a Microcenter or similar big box store near you, you can go pick up a 512MB or 1GB thumb drive for <$10. As far as the pictures, no pictures until after the contest that way no one copies someone else's design.

Just to give a little bit more competition, I've already created and submitted my entry. Beware!

Funk
10-15-2009, 12:07 PM
One question; when you say functionality I assume you are referring to portability. Correct?
Or would you be referring to the drives actual ability to function?

Datech
10-15-2009, 12:46 PM
3. Drive must still work after mod is finished.

The judging functionality refers to whether or not it will work. It will basically be an automatic 10 or an automatic 1. You can mod the thumb drive into anything you want, but it better be super cool cause you'll be taking a 9 point deduction if it doesn't work ;)

Funk
10-15-2009, 12:50 PM
I don't think it's possible for the drive not to work lol. So I'm in the clear.

Frenkie

d_stilgar
10-24-2009, 03:05 PM
Crap. I'm out. I was going to do this today, but botched a component pretty bad and won't have time to fix it. I've got to drive home today to trade cars and I'm fixing my wife's computer today. There's just no time now that I messed up that bit.

Frenkie
10-24-2009, 05:12 PM
Hm, this is kinda embarrasing for me to tell you....
But here goes:
I started with a standard USB stick
http://clan-rag.gameparty.net/bitchie/case/TDrive/Thumb-Drive01.jpg
I quickly dismantled it to its bone.
http://clan-rag.gameparty.net/bitchie/case/TDrive/Thumb-Drive02.jpg
I measured it , and found it would fit nice in a real thumb
http://clan-rag.gameparty.net/bitchie/case/TDrive/Thumb-Drive03.jpg
...got me a good sharp knive...
http://clan-rag.gameparty.net/bitchie/case/TDrive/Thumb-Drive04.jpg
..toke aim...
And after this shot, my story ends...
http://clan-rag.gameparty.net/bitchie/case/TDrive/Thumb-Drive06.jpg
Why? because I couldnt get the USB drive in the thumb, it seems people NEED a thumb do a lot of things and I just cut mine off !!!!!!

sorry guys!

Are all the entries going to be posted before the results are out on Halloween, or should we post them our selves? I'd love to see what other people came up with.

I'll be posting mine in the modding section a little later. Since all the entries are in I see no reason not to post about it.

Frenkie

Mine came just a day too late, so I did a quick fix and not what I wanted to present as a final.
