Why? XP is so outdated its not funny, I can't even remember how to use XP anymore.

XP is a great OS. I don't think this device would be able to support Vista or Win7. Maybe though, but XP is lighter than both of those, isn't it?

Lightweight and basically perfected, sounds like a good deal to me. They could of used Linux I suppose, but Windows is easier to use for 98% of the population.

I have to call BS due to the fact that microsoft discontinued (http://www.microsoft.com/windows/lifecycle/default.mspx)winXP early last year. Sure you can get copies from retailers that still have it stocked but microsoft doesn't sell or even support it anymore as far as i know. Although winXP is a familiar OS, it's simply overkill for a phone. It's like putting a rocket engine on a VW bug. Plus, who in their right mind would put a HDD in a hand held device? I'm sure those disk platters will last long...

As of April 2008, Microsoft is extending availability of Windows XP Home Edition for OEMs to install on Ultra Low-Cost PCs. The new OEM end date will be the later of either June 30, 2010, or one year after the general availability of the next version of Windows.AKA netbooks, and possibly phones. There goes my argument.

It's still supported, and will be until 21 April 2010. 24 month life cycle on SP3, which was released 21 April 2008.

I hope they still give support on XP.
Only 2 of my comp are on Vista (came with it) and I leave those to my gf and my daughter. I really hate it.
I would love to try 7 but dont have enough money at the time to build another rig.
The other 7 rigs; one is on FreeNAS one on OSX server, and the others on OSX (cant remember wish version, but its the latest one)
I'm not a big fan of Mac, but for what I do, it give me better results that way (only one of my home comp is Mac... and its for work...)

edit: Didnt wanted to be out of order on that thread, pass by my comments on wich os I'm using and go back on the subject.... I want one....

Plus, who in their right mind would put a HDD in a hand held device? I'm sure those disk platters will last long...Apple and Microsoft would...iPods and Zunes...
Doh!
They must put pretty resilient drives in those because I have had HDD heads skip off the platter surface with very little effort on my part. I just realized my old gen3 60gig iPod works like a charm as an external HDD, but that's all it does...

I hate having to correct myself, I always hope that someone else will say "listen here idiot...this is how it is."

my 80gb ipod classic died right after the 1 yr warranty expired, due to my son dropping it a few times.

I personally have dropped cell phones out of my lap in my car, just plain fumbled with it and dropped them, etc.

I wouldnt want a hdd in a phone, lol too much effort.

Only minus the flames.

We use hand-held computers for work and it has the windows mobile on it now, I'd love if they upgraded to something with XP on it.
