First my keyboard started acting up more and dropping the wireless signal. So I replaced it with a cheap logitech wired from wally world.

Then about a week and a half - two weeks ago the PSU in my gaming rig began overheating. With the load of 2 250mm fans, the 8800gts, 2 optical drives, 2 120mm fans, and some lights, that 500watt apevia just couldnt hack it. I have been limping on that PSU until I can get another larger one.

Now today my MS optical mouse went out. When I built Biohazard at the beginning of the year I replaced the led with a green one. Everything still works on the mouse. (everything being the LED) But it will not move the cursor. I replaced the batteries and cleaned the led and optical receiver. So its tost. I bought it with the wireless keyboard back in mid 2004 so I guess its time for it to quit.

This is a goos thing though because now I an justify purchasing a gaming mouse and maybe throw in a nice keyboard in the process.

RIP MS Wireless optical mouse 2.0 :(

Great.

I have had those months...

All of the wireless keyboards and mice I have used, break rather quickly. Maybe it is because when they lag on me more than a couple of times, they get launched...

I have never had a wireless KB or Mouse work well for me no matter who's product it is.

Greta time for the upgrade though.

I'm a huge logitech fanboy when it comes to keyboards and mice - I think there's one MS keyboard and one MS mouse in my house total, everything else is Logitech - keyboards, mice, webcams, speakers - and other than my Sphere webcam dying about 6 months ago (after 7 years which I think is more than reasonable bearing it mind it has moving parts, and it was the moving parts that went) I've never had one fail yet

I am using a borrowed very old optical compaq mouse at the moment. It is the small notebook type. I bought it with my first laptop I think. It sucks....

I used to get the Logitech wireless keyboard/mouse combos but after going through 3 in 1 year (the keyboards just didn't last) I went to the generic crap until I got my Logitech G15 (v1) and my G7, they have been going strong for close to 3 years now, no problems at all.

i finished building my pc, but it wouldn't power on
at first i thought it was the power supply, but then i tested it in my brother's dell and it was fine
i think it's something wrong with the motherboard, so now i have to find all the various things from the box and send it back to newegg :(

If only I could take a pic of my pile of dead graphics cards, sound cards, mobos, keyboards, and misc. junk. You'll all have to use your imaginations unfortunately. Thousand bucks easy just sitting in a pile, content to not work. I'm pretty sure my body emits high-powered microwaves that fry electrical components whenever I'm in the same room.
Bad capacitors seem to be the #1 killer in my pile though. It's funny how a 3 cent part can kill a $1200 TV, $2800 Dell XPS, and various PCI cards without prejudice. It's even funnier how companies can deny responsibility for parts they put in their product...

I actually had a keyboard die two weeks ago. I really liked it too. So after a bit of testing, I found out it was the PS2 connector on my mobo that died. Yay! It couldn't have been the much cheaper keyboard that died, could it? Now I'm just waiting for all hell to break loose on my mobo. Let's put a positive spin on this though: core i7 here I come! (As soon as I can get my current mobo to keel over!)

I used to work at a college on the IT team, and we had a user like that. Our solution was to put a humidifier in her office. ;) She had EXTREME static.. maybe you do also?

Also, if they are refusing warranty, and the capacitor is the only failure, I'd be bustin out my soldering iron.. it's not like you have a warranty to void.. might as well try to fix it. ;)

Or say that something else is wrong with it.

I've re-capped an entire motherboard.

As for the recapping:
I didn't have the guts to try recapping my mobo with my crap soldering skills...so I had it professionally recapped. Repair guy couldn't get it to power on either and didn't charge me for it. Goop had leaked out and may have crossed some traces that shouldn't have been crossed. It's been dead for several years now and wasn't that great of a board anyway so in a box it sits. My TV on the other hand, still functions but not properly. The power board has bulging capacitors and causes the the TV to power cycle under certain circumstances.

I think we should check to make sure our military's bombs don't have bad caps, then we should go bomb the factories over seas that keep churning these damn things out!

IIRC all military stuff uses aluminum solid caps they never go bad.

i've had them months, although i do think you can't beat Trust wireless sets, i've still got an old one about 8 years old, sister has it now, still going strong, and i currently have a trust wireless games set, which has yet to fail,

I put faith in trust (http://www.trust.com/), there not a big brand, but boy do they make good quality stuff and a good price!
