Ok, this is my first attempt at painting my computer. This was kind of a trial run to see how difficult it really is. I have an old case with a plexiglass window on the side that I hate, eventually that will go. But for now I was just trying out the painting. My system consists of a cheap, flimsy case, DFI-RDX200 Lanparty motherboard, AMD Athalon X 2 Dual Core (+4400), 2 GB Corsair RAM, 500w power supply, ATI Radeon X800XT GPU, ATI HDTV Wonder PCI (for sale), Soundblaster Fatality X-fi soundcard, 200GB IDE Maxtor, 250GB SATA Maxtor.

I am going to lose the CD-ROM drive, a little dated!

I hate this window and fan, hideous, but most of this will be done later.

Ok, I sense that some of you are losing your mind over my wire situation. I am not concerned with concealment at this point but I'll do something about it later.

I have thrown down some paint on the case and I know I didn't take enough pics, but I am new to photographing my work and I forget once I get going. Also moved the fan from the side window to the top.

Here is my first cut into a computer case.

You may notice that some areas are not solid in color, good eye! I ran out of paint and didn't have enough dough for another can.

I cut out every other spoke on the fan grill, don't know why, I will be changing all of this later.

That's it for now on this one, it has much work to be done, but I have so little spare time. I had to get all of this done in one afternoon to get back to the books in time. I hope to have more updates soon.

I thought those were just reflections. :D

Thank you! Actually, those are reflections. The poorly painted areas are dark in color around the edges and on the drive bay inserts.

Nice job, i'd say the next step would be to finish the paint, then turn your attention to the interior. Might be worth painting the bezels for your disk drives too, they stick out a bit.

But it's a damn nice colour. Nice work.

Thank you, I appreciate the compliments and advice! I agree the paint need closure (may even re-do the whole thing, not sure) and the drive bezels has me thinking about what to do next. It's been fun so far!

Wow! First paintjob, you say? Great job, much better than my first paint job, lol (I was only 12!). Just finish it off and then maybe coat it with a high gloss finish. Make sure to wetsand in between coats.

That raises a good question. What is the appropriate time to apply decals in the painting process? I mean, obviously after the last coat of paint, but before the first clear coat, or between coats?

Fantastic color. I have some recent experience with painting. might I suggest after you have finished with the color coats (3 is nice) throw on a coat or two of high gloss clear to finish up smoothing out the look. :)
