My cat has red eyes and he'll barely open them up. They have a little bit of eye gunk around them and it looks like they're watering up. I would take the cat to the vet, but there is literally no money to pay for a vet visit. So does anyone have any idea what this could be or what to do about it? I was thinking maybe a warm wet towel and just kind of wipe the eyes up a bit?

Is he moving slowly and eating a lot? If so, I have a theory.
Barring that, your idea shouldn't hurt. I don't know nearly enough to suggest a possible cause, though.

google told me that, sounds like what your cat has.
sounds like some pills are the answer, though i would try the saline solution first.

He's just laying down right now. He's not pawing or scratching at his eyes or face at all though, which is nothing new. Maybe he has allergies?
I'm going to wait a day or two and if it gets any worse, I have no choice but to call around and see if I can get any help. Hopefully its nothing serious and won't get any worse and will hopefully get better soon.

That cat looks basically like my cat right now. His eyes are red and shut and when he opens them he's just squinting. He was just fine earlier today, and now he's like this. It was very sudden.

then it's very likely that it's that. sounds like a bottle of that l-lysine, an amino acid should do the trick.
maybe join a cat forum or something along those lines to confirm that it would be safe to feed it that or get some more informed answers .
