I bought an Aprilia RS 50 (50cc racing motorcycle) on memorial day of this year. After several months of trying to get it licensed and many many setbacks, I finally got it titled and started riding it to and from school. Today I went to Wal-Mart to return a movie and was able to get it up to 55 on flat ground. This is pretty impressive for a 50cc bike, and I felt like it had more juice in it (although not a lot). I got the same turbo used on the world's fastest 50cc and may design some cad parts to get CNCd to make it fit.
Anyway, I'm pretty pumped. It's a fun little full-sized bike. It's perfect for in town.

Shoulda been aiming for 88 miles man, everyone knows thats the magic speed.

The speed limit on that road is 45, so yeah I was pushing it a little, but Wal-Mart is on the skirts and it wasn't busy.
There's a lot of BS about the speed of the RS 50. Lots of people say 100mph stock. That's crap. You'll get around 40-45 stock, 50-60 de-restricted. The guy I bought it from said he got it up to 65 on a slight downhill.
If I add the turbo I should be able to add 2-6hp to the thing. A new head and cylinder with a higher compression ratio would add more power as well. A new carb would help as well as carbon reeds and a new exhaust. That said, the first thing I want to do is paint it with glow in the dark paint and retro-reflective clear. Maybe add some EL wire in tasteful locations.
I'll put pics up tomorrow.

:stupid: but if you turbo it you want to keep the compression down. too much and it'll deto, and that leads to all sortsa problems

Nice! The max on the 250 is about 105mpg...
Downhill....
Crouched...
With a tailwind...
Most I've gone is 95, and that was weaving through traffic on the interstate. I definitely want to see pics though!

Nice!
I love the Aprilia's... A buddy of mine bought a new one a while back. It was originally intended as a race bike and it took him over a year to get it street legal enough to get it registered. I will have to ask him what model he got...
My sporty was doing 85 @ 3500rpm on the way to work this morning. I have only had it to 90 since I am still supposed to be gentle to this engine until 4000 miles (then I can dyno it). I looked into taking it to the track once it is dyno'd, but I would have to spend a couple of weeks getting it track ready. Not sure I am going to spend that time right now.
and yes, PICTURES MAN PICTURES!
Interesting, but I gotta ask why you went with the 50? Is that to get around needing a license? I'm just wondering because with all you're planning on doing to it, I feel like, get the kind of power you want, it would be a lot cheaper to just have gotten a bigger bike.

If I do not get on my own 2 wheels soon I am going to go crazy. I am going to go riding again this weekend with my buddy. If his R6 was not a POS I would buy it from him but I think it must have been a stunt bike in its past life or just a squid special because its all beat up.

So Datech, what is your redline? Mine is now up to 7200 (still dialed back to 5500 so I don't abuse this motor until I break it in). Stock redline was 5200 I think. I am not supposed to go over 4000 rpm until I get another 500 miles on this beast, but, I have had it up that high, just to see.

I suspect he's talking Sport bike, rather than Sportster. :D

Airbozo has a sportster and I have a sportbike, if anyone needs clarification. A sportster is a type of cruiser, kinda, whereas a sportbike is just a sportbike, or a crotch rocket to some.
My redline is 13k-15k, and when I'm running around with my ZX-6R and 955i friends I hit 14k every now and then trying to keep up, lol. I idle at about 1200RPM, my powerband is literally 6500-7000rpm, and I usually can't shift until 7000 or higher anyway.
I wonder what the redline is on the 50, I would assume an Aprilla has a tach.
That would make sense; I would imagine that sportbikes operate at much higher rpms than others (never actually ridden a sportbike myself). My bike hits 80mph @ ~8000rpm, but I redline at 10k; it's not a sportbike, just a smallish (400cc) engine.

I've got a 250cc engine, smallest in the sportbike class aside from Aprilla's. Most people consider it more of a streetbike than an actual sportbike, lol.

It doesn't matter if its a sportbike, cruiser, or touring bike we all are out there on 2 wheels with crazy cagers trying to kill us every chance they get.

Here's the bike. It's so nice! The reason I went with a 50cc is because I will only be riding it in town. I have my motorcycle endorsement and it is registered and titled. I love 50cc bikes. I guess it is just the modder spirit in me. I want to get the most out of the least. I mean . . . I got up to 55 in town . . . right?
That said, I would love the Aprilia Shiver 750. Naked bikes look so good.

lol, that exhaust is far to small looking haha.
i'm sorry, looks like a nice bike otherwise.
you should put a fake exhaust/heat shield to make it look manlier.

The exhaust is too small. I agree. If I were to change it though, I would have it go out the tail of the bike, which would require body modification, but that would be fine with me. If I get the turbo mounted I will need a new exhaust anyway, so I'll make sure to route it out the back and make it look bigger and meaner.

What size tires are on there? I know its not a speed bike, but if you put some nice Pirelli Speed Demons or City Demons on there you could take corners at about 5mph faster depending on how you ride. Super sticky and awesome tires.
Ok, fair enough, to each their own. I imagine it probably gets really nice mileage too, with that tiny motor.
