I have decided to buy a Thermaltake Shark case in the near future to to a very long and dedicated mod. Only problem is i don't know what to do with it, I've had alot of people telling me to get different cases but since ill be using this PC for just about everything the shark provides ( along with a LCS ) the room, cooling and mobo tray that i want. So back on track, i was thinking of doing something in relation to half life but im not such a huge fan of the grungy look. Any ideas are much appreciated.

The shark's a pretty nice case. It's also a pretty expensive case. Havn't you got anythig older kicking around for your first project? It's just that if you made a mistake, you're probably going to regret it.

One of the points of modding your case is to express yourself creatively. So think of something, it doesn't need to be related to your computer, that you think is cool. For me, it's things like matte black, fallout styles, gadgets, exposed wiring, UV lighting. Then take some of your ideas and see what you can come up with. Try looking at the mods that other folk here have done as well, and see if they give you any inspiration.

Hope i helped!

Yeah, i did mod an old case but i dont really count that as a mod because all i did was powdercoat, cut some holes for fans and plexiglass and coated the entire inside with a thin layer of mirror.

Sounds like a mod to me!
As long as you've got some experience then you'll be fine.

Have you come with any thoughts on what you'd like to do to the case?

Make a pheromone pod out of it! lol

Seriously though, just go through the game, the first few levels, and look around at the environment. Turn on godmode if you want, and just explore the levels, looking at the architecture and various items you come across. I'm sur eyou'll find something that looks similar in shape and size to the case and components that you could use to base your mod on.

One thing I'd love to see is a mod based on the last level, the cool black sci-fi themed building. You could even have acryllic tubes with fans below them, suspending balls in mid-air in them to simulate the wierd glowing balls that you shoot with the gravity gun that are in the particle streams. It owuldn't be too hard, just paint a couple ping-pong balls with UV paint, get some UV leds in there, and drill some air holes int he top of the tubes out of sight and as soon as you turned on the comp, the balls would appear to hover in the tubes.

Like I said, go play through the levels and see what you can find. There is a ton of inspiration in that game, if you just take your time and browse.

That's a pretty good idea Rankenphile. About the ping-ping balls. It's crazy, but it would look so sweet.

You could get it so that when you're at a LAN party the balls fly out and distract other players :D

Yea, i think im going to mod it into the citadel ( the huge combine building that goes up into the sky )
Heres a pic of what the citadel looks like.

I think everyone's been waiting for a citadel mod for a while here :)

So are you planning to build a model of the citadel and house the parts inside of it, or maybe have somethings seperate to the citadel? Eg: Have the citadel coming out of a rocky base like in the game, and you can house your Mobo and such in the back, with the drives etc. in the tower.

Watch the price on this one, try and work out if you can afford it before you start, ok? Plan, measure, and measure again. :)

oOo.
nice idea.
i was thinkning making it look like some or the lab when you first meet the doctor. and have the front look like the computer barney uses to contact the doctor at the very start

Im probly going to have a rocky base like in the citadel where my mobo will be installed and ill have the drives and such in the citadel itself. ( may not even need to use the thermaltake shark case )

Hey i'm going to be starting my hl2 mod in a lil bit as well...I had some ideas myself, kinda gonna go off of what i've seen on the doom 3 case but not quite as intense. (i should actually say that the doom 3 case was my inspiration it's not really like it all that much) and without the crazy mechanical parts. anyways the only idea i would like to steal is those crazy floating energy balls if i may, with your permission and all. I will be posting a worklog as well although i will be taking my time with this mod as it's my first really intensive mod and i wanna do it right. and i don't mean to interject or anything upon this thread but does anyone have a good idea of what i might be able to do with the side panel that is behind the mobo...the only idea that i had was to put a huge plexi glass illuminated HL2 symbol....but that's pretty blan you know what i mean....anyways thanx :)

Like i said, best way to do this is to make a list of the things you like, and then form a mod about them. Tell us what you like, and we'll see what we can do.
