The Challenge:
Carve the best pumpkin you can and submit between now and Oct 28th. Only one entry per member, so make it count.

Entering:
All entries must be made by members registered on or before Oct. 8th. All entries should be made in this forum. A single entry may include multiple pumpkins if they are all of the same composition (one pumpkin eating another; every character from The Simpsons, but each on their own pumpkin).Feel free to post as many pictures as you want. All entries must be of real carved pumpkins, although how you choose to design, sculpt, or cut them is up to you.

Voting:
All votes must be made by members registered on or before Oct. 8th. To vote, send me a PM between Oct 29th, 12:00M and Oct 30th, 11:59PM. On Oct 31st, I will tally the votes and announce a winner in this thread.

The prize:
The winner will receive one Commell LV-670 mini-itx board with a 1.8Ghz P4 and 512mb of DDR ram. All entrants are likely to receive lots of positive rep, and at least one positive rep each from me. Slaveofconvention is also going to supply a 3.06Ghz Celeron that is compatible with the board, so this should be a pretty hefty (although dated) prize for the winner.

It's a bit used. I had to cut some bits off of it to make it work in the NES PC it was once in, but it works, and hey, it's free to the winner.

When submitting the entries, please include either a picture of yourself with the pumpkin, or a piece of paper with your forum name next to the pumpkin (if you don't wanna show your ugly mug :D)

I'll have to see if I can pick up a pumpkin and get in on this. I haven't carved one in forever.

I am heading to a pumpkin farm this weekend. So I am confused. Is it 1 per entry or can we submit multiple pumpkins.

slaveofconvention
10-13-2009, 03:28 AM
I got the impression it was one entry per person - if your entry contains multiple pumpkins that's ok, as long as they're part of a set - the example earlier was all of the simpsons characters, otherwise, I think it's one pumpkin.

d_stilgar
10-13-2009, 04:45 AM
It's only one entry, but of one composition. I've seen pumpkins crushing other pumpkins in their mouth and stuff like that. If your single entry contains multiple pumpkins, then they will be judged together, so putting your my-little-pony pumpkin with your big-daddy will not make much sense.

Got my pumpkins today. Now I need to pick my designs and carve them out. Then all I have to do is pick the best one to enter here.

10-17-2009, 06:27 PM
I bought two pumpkins too lol - never EVER done a pumpkin in my life - not a big thing here in the UK :p

I have a questions. Are we allowed to retract entries and replace them with a better entry? I will be carving mine today, but I will probably do another within the next week or two, and there is the chance that I'll like my second better. And I assume no voting for ourselves :D.

slaveofconvention
10-18-2009, 01:18 PM
There's no extra points for getting in early - why not just wait until closer to the deadline (28th) and then submit the one you like best?

d_stilgar
10-18-2009, 07:07 PM
I have no problems with a person editing their post and replacing the entry with another. You can vote for yourself, although I hope you do because you actually think your pumpkin is the best.

Bring it on. You're all going to come in second. I know this because I cheated--I had a helper:

I went ahead and bought 2 pumpkins and paid for a cool stencil off of a website and get it all carved up and decided I hated it. So I went and bought another pumpkin and found a picture online and made my own stencil and this is what I got.

I might do another pumpkin, if so, it will be for fun and I'll post it anyways. This turned out alright--part of the tombstone broke off though :(.

part of the tombstone broke off though :(.

That just makes it more authentic! When I imagine a spooky graveyard, I don't picture perfectly maintained gravestones. It looks more realistic this way if you ask me.

Well here is my entry for this. Kinda proud of it as this is my first time carving a pumpkin (pretty sheltered chiildhood) and especially doing it free hand.

The odd looking one on the left is a "zombie bunnie" according to my 7 year old. She is the one who carved it. The cat back elft was carved by my wife and the 2 small ones my 2 year old drew on while the wife and I carved them.

Ok here is my entry. Its themed after the headless horseman in the legend of sleepy hollow cartoon I watched every Halloween as a kid.

I moved the pumpkin in this image during a 15 sec exposure to simulate a demon soul entering the pumpkin.

Her's mine. I'm not a huge fan of just carving around the lines (not because it doesn't look good, it just is not as fun), so I made up my own design and took a bit of a different approach:

The entry period is officially over. To vote, look through the entries and send me a PM. A list of the members that entered can be found here (http://thebestcasescenario.com/forum/showthread.php?p=268312#post268312), but I will list them here as well for convenience.

To vote:
Send me a PM with the word "Pumpkin" in the title. Put the name of the member you think had the best pumpkin in the body. Really, just make it easy for me to understand that you are voting for a winner in this contest. I will tally the votes on Halloween and report back. Remember, in order for your vote to count you simply need to have been a member on or before the 8th of October 2009.

Good luck!
