...I've decided its time to take control of my life. carpe diem and all that ****. so... I really really really need to quit my cushy job that pays nothing, and find a job that pays better. and I need to move. My ex wife is sucking the life out of me. I am stuck in a rut right now, and I have been floundering. I need to kick my ass into gear!
relocating is not an issue, money is though. lol guess I could just sell everything i have...

Sounds like you're looking at the line you need to cross. (I've looked at that line more times than I care to count.) You going to do something about it?

If I don't, I don't think I could survive much longer. So I better!! lol.
I seriously think I might put in my two weeks tomorrow when I go to work.
EDIT: ok so I should really find a job first before I quit. but damnit, I am going job hunting tomorrow. lol

Find a job first, I agree. Now is not the time to be unemployed.
But congratulations anyway and good luck!

got a question to ask, I have always been really proficient @ MS office, is it worth it to get those stupid certifications for office?

good luck to you, my friend. Remember, nobody is gonna come along and change things for you, you have to be the one to do it :)

Afraid I can't help you there, out of my area.

I'm sure there are jobs where those would be useful, but they'll be, like, secretarial/data entry stuff.
Good luck with your search. What field are you looking in?

I also am looking at that line.
But unfortunately I switched jobs recently, and am still not satisfied, both with the work and the pay.
Good luck man.
PS. Yes, definitely find another job first. I didn't and was out of work for a few days. Luckily my new boss was just getting too busy to take care of things by himself and saw me as a lifesaver. If he hadn't been in that situation, I'd have been SOL.

well, right now I work @ a hotel doing the night audit. which I really enjoy, because I don't do hardly anything. great job for going to school, but right now I can't afford to go back to college so I am just working. and its just wearing on me working nights and then only getting 2-4 hours of sleep most days. so its rough.
I've looked into getting my CDL and driving truck as there are some pretty good local route jobs around here. unfortunately, that also costs money and I'm broke! lol
So now i've been looking into office admin jobs (basically what I do at the hotel just dont get paid enough to do it) also into local delivery jobs (which ive done before and loved) that don't require a CDL.
I am definitely open to suggestions though. I want to move but my son is in this area and moving would make it harder to see him as much as I get to, which would be really hard. so I'm torn about relocating.
I just know that the way my life is going right now is not the way I want it to. I've become lazy and complacent and that is just not good enough for me. Gonna work on muh resume and send it around to a few places and see what happens.

This is the most important thing. Remember it. Write it down. It will be easy to forget if you're anything like me.
And on the relocating, your son has got to be very young, *don't* move away from him. He's only going to be small once. I'm just now going through that myself. Every day I see my kids (which is fortunately every day) they're bigger, and noticeably so. Improve your life by all means, but don't miss this. You'll regret it for the rest of your life.
(I know, I'm just full of cheer, ain't I?)

This just caught my eye. I woke for a trucking compeny, and I pulled my time driving. If you look carefully or ask the people hiring for these local routes, almost every single one I am willing to bet want some over-the-road experience, usually two years. Soooo many people go into trucking thinking "oh I will just get something local and be home everyday" only to find themselves driving long haul getting dissed on by everybody.
Hey you could get lucky. I did when I got this job, but it was still after years of driving.
Not trying to piss on your parade man, I just dont want you to have false hopes, or listen to empty promises and do something that will cost you time and money and end up not working out. Buck up, man, it will get better.
At least you have a job at all right now, thats more than a lot of people can say right now. :)

yeah, I've talked to a couple drivers who told me of a few companies that would hire short haul with little to no experience as long as they took a company training course or something like that. I actually wouldnt mind long haul too much other than the fact I wouldnt get to see my son all that much :S that would be the only drawback. I have no problems with any other aspect of long haul, I love to drive and have roughly 80 gigs of music to plow through :P
my problem is is that I know I can pass the written test and get my learner's permit (in Idaho) I just dont know anyone who would let me drive their truck and get some experience before taking the skills test. I can drive w/ a trailer no problem, but backing up a huge semi down an alley seems a little sketchy to me w/o some practice! (and I dont wanna pay ~$3k for a driving school :p)

Hey man i know how you feel you Have seen my rant thread .
I would definetley find something first . Like the other guys were saying.
I have seen ads some where that would pay for the tranning but you have to drive for them so long maybe you could look into UPS or Fedex.
I know you have to work your way to a driving job but you could be home at night .
I dont know if your interested but , Cant you get air brake cdl and drive a dump Truck i hear the pay is pretty decent . Not what an OTR Driver gets but ,Its a start .
Im going to start GED classes after the first of the year if all goes well.
I know where your coming from might be a good time to look into that furniture building on the side .
This is a true story i know this guy who is aboutr 60 now who was an Engineer of some kind who told me he made Great money but hated his job.
He decided he had always liked woodworking he started makeing birdhouses .
I thought birdhouses wtf he left an Engineering job to build birdhouses and small furniture like bookcases nothing exzotic .
He said it was slow to start out but on a slow year he makes 35000 to 40000.
He told me i promise you this is the the truth that he has had some 100,000 plus years this is no bs story.
It may sound corny but i still beleive if you work your azz off and give it all you got you can do anything you want in life get er done goat .
Sorry that was a long one lol

I also work for a trucking company, we've got over four thousand trucks on the road, and they will hire just about anyone. In-house training, a lot of the drivers are trainers, they send the new guys out for so many miles with a trainer with a minimum-pay guarantee while training, then they let you test to get your CDL etc etc.
It all sounds rosy as hell, and I know a few guys that do very well there, but we have a LOT of guys that jump into the whole deal without knowing what they're getting into and end up leaving with a debt over their head (for the "driving school", which is free if you stay with the company X amount of time).
But all of the above only applies if you're willing to run anywhere any time, they have a few dedicated routes but they are guarded very jealously, with good reason.
Best advice on this train of thought, be sure you know EVERYTHING about the fine print wherever you're looking to go, and realize that sitting behind the wheel and driving is only half the job. We lose a lot of people who thought that was all they had to do.

Yeah that is good info. thanks BoB. :)
and liquid, thanx to you as well. good ideas.
we'll see how things go. I might just end up borrowing some money from my parents to pay for school next semester so I can get my student loans again (I have to retake some withdrawals on my transcript to get my completion percentage up). then I won't have to worry as much.
