This guy took a Dell Mini 9 netbook, and modded it into a tablet. Awesome...

An EEEPC could be a good donor for something like this.. hmm...

Solderless touch screen kit, keyboard is removed, screen is flipped around and attached directly to the casing, brilliant.

It's cool....but is it useful now? He's now gotta prop the screen up and attach another keyboard to it...and that setup looks like s**t. I hope his OS has a nice and intuitive onscreen keyboard so he can actually go mobile. Other than bragging rights and briefly entertaining others, I don't see the point.

Maybe I'm missing something though, correct me if I am.

The stand is only for desktop use. He's running Windows 7 on it, and apparently it's great with the touchscreen. Plus it's 100% portable, since it has wifi, bluetooth, and the battery still in it. You can carry it around and use it as a tablet, but with the stand and an external keyboard/mouse, you can use it as a desktop.

I'm sure his cardboard stand is only a prototype anyways. He says in the worklog that it's still in progress. He's going to add some additional cooling to it, as well as some other "goodies". :)

That is awesome! I wonder if you could do this with a 1005HA?

And I wonder what's cheaper? Buying one of the new $500-ish Tablet Netbooks or building this? That or maybe just wait until the Crunchpad comes out, although that wont be until next year. Hmm.

Did he list a cost anywhere?

Personally.... I'd rather a hybrid model ;)

These kits are only like $85?? Too bad they don't have any for the 1005HA model. T_T

Still though, that's surprisingly cheap to me for some reason.

I think that $85 is the touchscreen kit only.. just to be clear on that. :)

So... are you saying they don't come with the touch screens? or?

Ok whoa..

Lets get on the same page here. $85 is the touchscreen kit.. everything you need to add a touchscreen to a netbook.

Netbook not included. :D

LOL Well DUH. $85 for a Touch Screen Netbook would be the greatest deal in the universe. lol

No wonder I was a bit confused about what you were trying to say. haha

Maybe it's just me then? I just thought $85 was a pretty sweet deal. I was thinking it would cost more like $150-$250.

I think it depends on screen size. Touch kits for the old 701 EEEPC's were around 60-70$. Since the mini 9 = 9" screen...

If it's screen-size-based, I can forget about touchscreenizing my 17" Inspiron 9400 with busted hinges. However, my friend has a Mini 9... could steal hers... hmm... nah.

Cool find, regardless.

EDIT: There's always our Eee 900A, too. That'd be spiffy.

Here are the ones I could find with relative ease. I was redirected to that site via review/preview sites.

Then I found this one through googling...

It's definitely cheaper if you own a netbook! lol

I wonder why there is no 1005HA model... I mean, its a fairly popular netbook if not THE most popular. I see people go into best buy and pick them over the competition all the time. Hmm. Maybe its too thin? :/

Unfortunately no 10" panels, but some 7", 8.9", and 9" models available nice and cheap, complete with USB interfaces:
7": $33.35 (http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.16124)
8.9": $53.52 (http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.15611)
9": $48.20 (http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.18490)

I'm pretty sure they ship worldwide too (for free! :D ).

EDIT:
Also, awesome mod; I saw it on hackaday a couple days ago. It's a very slick one.
