Hi Guys -
I need some new components (pretty much everything for a new build) apart from a few bits. I need the following :
CPU
Mobo
Graphics
PSU
RAMThat is it really. Quite like Airbozo's recent thread I would of appeared to of fallen away from the lastest technology and have been looking around a few sites and don't know what to get!
The rest of the bits I already have (HDD, ROM's, Case) and will be upgrading but at a later date.
I have quite a small limit on this one sort of £400 - £500 for the components. The computer will be used for mainly normal bits. There will be some lighting design vizulization on it so good graphics would be a bonus.
Incase you hadent guessed they bits will need to come from an British site eg:
http://www.microdirect.com
http://www.ebuyer.com
http://www.novatech.com
http://www.aria.co.uk
Any ideas would be appreciated.
Cheers

You're a braver man than me if you use microdirect - I've placed 3 orders with them in the last 6 years and they've utterly screwed the pooch on all of them - ebuyer all the way for me - in the very rare instance there's a problem, it's been sorted quickly and you can't beat placing an order at 7.30pm and having it turn up at your door at 8am lol
I'll chuck together a list later when I have a lil more time but one Q - what O/S are you planning to use, just so I know limits on memory etc

Cheers dude!
TBH I have had exactly the opposite. I have always used MD and never had a problem with them - honestly I swear by them. Ebuyer I have had troubles with and also I really dislike there post charges. Saying that I have not checked them out in ages so they may of changed. I would use them again though and give them a chance (especially if they are cheaper! :D)

Can't say I have any issue with ebuyers charges but then again I often pile up a list before ordering - I seem to remember them once charging me about £11 to send out 3 cases, 2 montors and enough components to fill 2 of the 3 cases.
If you're buying something minor like a sd card, the postage might seem steep but I rarely check - I usually am in no hurry and take the 5 day free postage option - which almost always arrives within 2 or 3 lol
At the same time, I guess when it comes to aftersales, they might look at my purchase history and see about £14,000 on there over the last 5 years and think "yeah, we'll do a little more to keep this guy happy"

Here's what I've come up with:
Intel Core i5 750 2.66Ghz (Lynnfield) (Socket LGA1156) - Retail + Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising Game [BV80605001911AP £159.99
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CP-299-IN&groupid=701&catid=6&subcat=1272
Gigabyte GA-P55-UD4 Intel P55 (Socket 1156) DDR3 Motherboard [GA-P55-UD4] £143.99
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MB-204-GI&groupid=701&catid=5&subcat=1495
Asus GeForce GTS 250 512MB GDDR3 PCI-Express Graphics Card [90-C1CMRF-J0UAY00Z] £80.99
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-199-AS&groupid=701&catid=56&subcat=1402
Patriot Viper 4GB (2x2GB) PC3-10666 1333MHz Dual Channel (PVS34G1333ELK) [PVS34G1333ELK] £68.99 inc VAT
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-019-PA&groupid=701&catid=8&subcat=1516
OCZ ModXStream Pro 600w Silent SLI Ready Modular Power Supply [OCZ600MXSP-UK] £66.99
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-031-OC&groupid=701&catid=123&subcat=1098
£520.95 inc. VAT
It's a touch over your budget, but they're mostly up-to-date components, and if you're willing to push it a touch more:
Gigabyte GA-P55-UD5 Intel P55 (Socket 1156) DDR3 Motherboard [GA-P55-UD5] £169.99
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MB-203-GI&groupid=701&catid=5&subcat=1495
Asus GeForce GTX 260 Glaciator+ 896MB GDDR3 PCI-Express Graphics Card (Includes Batman: Arkham Asylum & 3D Discover Glasses) [90-C1CNF0-M0UAY00Z] £124.99
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-213-AS&groupid=701&catid=56&subcat=927
Which would then cause the price to be: £590.95 inc VAT.
If neither of these options aren't affordable, let me know.
