Looks like a nice phone, I might have to port to Sprint!

That's a pretty good ad. It makes me curious about the product. I wonder the odds that it will deliver as elegantly as they claim.

Port to Sprint?

I think that it will fail at first. The intro price will be too high, there won't be enough apps, etc etc. But given a bit of time, I think it could be a pretty serious competitor eventually. ...so long as they don't fudge it up too badly from the get-go anyways. That's the number one phone killer right there. It has to have potential at the very least to stay alive long enough to get "perfected".

The Zune HD is so small, and I love small phones. I wish it was a phone so bad. I would buy one this week if it were a phone.

I wouldn't mind an android phone if it were small enough. I usually get the smallest piece of garbage phone I can. I have never had a use for a smart phone.

Who wouldn't be? :p

I'd take the iPhone any day over this thing. Well, as of right now anyways, we'll see once it comes out and gets reviewed. The only reason why I don't have an iPhone is they cost too damn much, monthly that is. $70 minimum and you get next to nothing, the only realistic plan is almost a $100 a month. T_T

But as they say, competition can only be a good thing.

Anyways, it can try and compete with Apple's market share, but it'll never be able to compete with Apple's "mind share" and thus it'll never reach Apple numbers. People get excited over literally anything Apple. For example, offer two exactly the same devices but under two different brands, we'll do Motorola and Apple for relevance. Which are people going to pick? Almost all of them will pick Apple. You just can't compete with that. Although... if there was ever a company that had even the smallest chance, and it is small, it would have to be Google, which Android is. We'll see I guess. If Google can make Android into something that is a huge buzzword and in a more positive light than anything Apple is, then we might eventually see a throne overthrowing. But that would be incredibly difficult and thus not very likely. That and the iPhone will be opening up to many carriers eventually which if the Droid doesn't, then it has no chance at all except for loyal Verizon customers who are into these kinds of gadgets. ...which btw, isn't a very large market share at all last I checked. lol

They are going to have to REALLY push this thing super hard these next following days to come anywhere near "Apple hype". Then they have to deliver above expectations. Maybe then the seed will be properly sown, otherwise it'll just be another "iPhone killer" which are a dime a dozen these days.

In summary: I don't think it has a chance of living up to the expectations its set for itself. But MAYBE it has a chance of becoming "the next best thing". Maybe.

i like it,

there are meny phones out there now which surpass the apple iPhone in both design and funcanality, my phone can do everything an iphone can really, and i have take high res photos with a flash, been able to do video calls since its release, and not get charged through the nose for the privilige,

When my contracts comes up for renewal next year i plan on getting a HTC as i've always liked them, they are very widly supported, well made, loads of free open source software, loads of quality software for a low cost, and it dosen't govern what you can/can't install and decide to kill your phone if it wants to (Which by the way apple can, there was a report a little bit back about a kill switch found in the software, no one knows what its for, and apple won't answer any questions as to what its doing there)

IDK, personally I don't like the design of the Droid; it looks too much like they took the two pieces and stuck them together without really thinking how they would fit..

Ah well, as soon as T-Mobile announces their 'dark plan', I'm getting a Nokia n900 anyways, so it doesn't really matter for me.

@Zephik:
TBH, the only reason why the "loyal Verizon customers who are into these kinds of gadgets" market is so small is because Verizon shot themselves in the foot by, well, not having these kinds of gadgets. Also by locking phones into their network... If I could put an n900 on Verizon's network, I would in a second because quite honestly, in terms of overall coverage, their network does run circles around everyone else.

Yep, that would be one of Verizon's largest faults, they have a horrible phone selection. It's getting quite a bit better lately though with three smart phone-ish phones that aren't listed as such. All at pretty great prices too. Then they have a couple Blackberry's and some pretty nice HTC's. And now we get Droid. Their only other fault is their software. You give us the service, let the phone manufacturers worry about software dammit.

I might just have to wait until the end of the month here to see if Droid launches or not and then see if its realistically affordable or not. I'd undoubtedly have to get the $55 texting only plan instead of the $35 plan since there is no way they are going to not advertise it as a smart phone, but as long as its $150 or less on a two year contract, I'll probably be too tempted to pass it up. :p

I have a feeling it's going to cost a lot though. Verizon always messes something up, they couldn't deliver above expectations even if they tried.

IDK if there are gonna be restrictions on what phones can use it, but T-Mobile is supposed to be announcing what they currently are referring to as "Project Dark (http://www.i4u.com/article27522.html)", which (according to the internets) will include a $50/mo plan with unlimited data, voice, text, sms, and mms.

will it be true unlimited data, or 4gb cap like all the "unlimited plans" are now.

IDK, though this (http://www.i4u.com/article27668.html) article mentions there being an "even more" plan, and an "even more plus" plan, which presumably would be more expensive.. I could see maybe the difference being a higher (or no) cap. Here's hoping there aren't any to begin with though.

How much do you guys think Droid is going to be initially? That is, when it launches, what do you think the 2 year contract is going to be?
