has anyone used it? preferably on a phenom? ive seen reveiws on nothing but i7's and i want a reveiw that will actually help me decide here, got till friday this week to figure out what cpu cooler im getting, i just upgraded from an athlon x2 6000+ to the phenom II x4 940 ( i know its not the best of the 3 phenom 2's but i kept that in mind i chose the cpu based on its price and performance and also i will be going SLI very soon

I haven't used the V10, but I have the same CPU and have cooled it perfectly well with a ThermalTake SpinQ and a Tuniq T120. If you're just looking to cool it, both of these are way cheaper than the V10. Of course, if you just want the V10 because... well, because it's awesome, I don't see any reason at all why it wouldn't cool it just fine if these two air coolers do as well as they do.

I had this processor when I did the review on the Spin Q (http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/forum/showthread.php?t=19637), and it hit 61 in that test, but that was 100% load on all 4 cores for half an hour. The Tuniq in that same test kept it below 56. I can't think of anything you could do without overclocking the crap out of it that would come near those conditions.

I'm running a 940 in a antec 1200 case (http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/forum/showthread.php?t=17103), I get about 38c idle and 56c under full load with prime 95. I'm using a Zalman 9500 cooler and my 940 is overclocked to 3.4ghz.
Personally i don't see much point in the v10 as its overpriced and very big compared to other coolers. Though in your case you don't have an issue with space. I have worked on a friends HAF before and if you max out you case fans in it you shouldn't have any troubles with temps regardless of the cooler (within reason of course lol)

spartan not gonna lie, that HSF is kinda overkill for your proc. i have a v8 on my i7 and it is pretty awesome. suggest that.

I have had a V10 as well as a V8 in my hands at a local PC shop and CM's other flagship cooler the Hyper N690 on my test bench and can tell you that none of them are slouches and they all will more than adequately cool anything you throw at them. If you are going for the WOW factor when people look into your case go V10, if you are trying to save some $$ get the N620. Anything in the middle and the V8 is the job. I would also recommend the Thermaltake BigTyp 14 as it is a very large and stout cooler with a built in manual fan controller if you wish to forgo the built in software control that came with your motherboard.

im thinking about going with the coolermaster hyper 212+ with its ability to switch up fans im thinking about putting two scythe slipstreams on there ( the 110cfm variants) thinking even if i do over clock, those fans alone will stop it from ever getting hot

I have the 212+ on my bench right now and its performing well. If you have any questions shoot me a PM. We should have the 212+ review published Monday.
