As a positive foil to the pet peeves thread, I invite you to list a few things in life you like. This isn't at all intended to be mushy, but it's real easy to spend time focusing on things in life we don't like, and I think sometimes we forget to pay attention to things we do like.

1. Getting hollered at by one of my cats in the morning. He sounds genuinely annoyed with me because he wants attention and I'm getting ready to leave for work...it could be annoying, but he's so completely over the top with his whining that it's really funny. And he does it every morning.

2. Working on my mod. Yes, it's been 7 years and gone through 3 versions. Yes, in some ways I'm tired of it and I just want it to be done. But at the same time, it's so much fun to sit and work on it.

3. Lazy weekends.

4. People who hold the door open for other people.

5. While sitting here in my office, watching the light from the sunset (or sunrise) dust a nearby hilltop with soft red tones. Makes me wish I could paint.

6. Feta or gorgonzola cheese. On tri-tip, salad, filet mignon, baguette, etc etc. Along with some good red wine.

7. Going home to my new apartment that has TWO assigned parking spaces!! My girlfriend and I don't have to worry about hunting for parking anymore! woo hoo!

8. Second movement of Rachmaninoff's second Piano Concerto...absolutely gorgeous piece of music.

9. PLAYING that piece of music myself on the piano. :D

1. Team Fortress 2. I can't stop playing. It is so good. I'm also a bit of an achievement hunter.

2. Kings of Leon. Best band ever. I've been a fan since their first album, so don't say I jumped on the bandwagon! I'm driving that thing alright!

3. My 28" Hanns G monitor.

4. My wife. She should be higher on this list though.

5. Left 4 Dead. I love zombies and I love this game.

6. Umpqua brand chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream. There is no better ice cream on the planet and at 4.8 cents an ounce it can't be beat.

When my kids faces light up when they see me.

When I see the subtle look on the face of one of my kids when they are learning something and it 'clicks'. If you're ever in this situation I implore you to watch closely. You can actually see it, when the gears acutally mesh and they get it.

My wife (properly listed in order here).

My shop. I don't have the uber shops that some have, but I think I sitll have it better than most guys ever do.

My paycheck.

Glenlivet.

The feeling you get when the solution to a problem that's been simmering in the back of your brain just appears. That's woken me up more than once, and I love it.

The look on my nephews face and the follow up reaching for it when he sees my gotee.

UPS / fed ex pulling into my driveway with a box full of goodies.

Going over to my grandmothers and smelling the food shes cooking before I even get to the door.

My LCD TVs, My Truck, My Boat

Large checks from photo contracts.

My Wife. She is sooo good to me and full of life.

My animals. Even though they can be annoying at times, they provide me endless hours of entertainment and fun.

My Sportster. Thanks to all the work I have done on it, it truly is my bike and is so much fun to ride.

Food, cooking and fine dining. As much as I love food, I should be pushing 300lbs... Somehow I manage to keep in shape and eat well.

My family; from wife and kid(s almost!) to siblings, parents, etc, I love them all, and would be lost without them.

God / My church. I promise not to go all churchey in here, I'll just say that they really have saved me, and that I couldn't/wouldn't be where i am today without them.

Music. Listening, writing, playing, whatever.. there's nothing like it in the world.

Nature; living right near the Rocky Mountains in Alberta, you sometimes take for granted the power and beauty of nature, but as soon as you drive west from here, you are reminded how amazing things really are.

TBCS: my geek haven. The only place I can truly express my love of technology and craftsmanship; the friends I have made here over the years and the new people who always "up the ante" are something I'll never forget.

I need to amend my list: my girlfriend (wife at some point in the not-too-distant future) ought to have been at the top :D

playing piano is pretty high on the list too - I remember the days in college when I'd go into the music building at 9pm (back when they let us have keys), and I'd sit and play until 3 or 4 in the morning. Beethoven, Bach, Schubert, Mozart, Liszt, Brahms, Chopin, etc etc. Sadly my back complains after a couple hours of playing nowadays LOL

TBCS ought to be on my list too :D I'd initially joined a couple weeks ago for some wiring advice, and I quickly discovered that I love this site. Thanks all for being so welcoming, helpful, and supportive!

In no particular order:

- Riding my motorcycle. I just can't be mad at anything after a good ride :D

- Working on [insert project here]. I love creating, and improving; even when it does end up filling up my whole apartment with random parts (either that or making me wish I had more monitors)... :whistler:

- TBCS

- Taking things that others have discarded and either restoring them to their original state (or better), or making something new and original.

- Getting around safeguards/etc intended to keep people out (whether that be physical or digital).

- Related, solving hard puzzles/mindteasers/etc.

- Learning. (Note I didn't say school...I loath school...possibly because so little learning goes on in proportion to the amount of time spent.)

- Imparting said learning on others.

- Good music. Unfortunately just listening at this point; I haven't actively made it since high school :(

- Good food.

- Camping and generally spending time outdoors in nature.

- LOLcats.

- Animals in general.

- Sharing any or all of the above with like-minded people.
